V much agree! Went to a @maggiestiefvater.bsky.social seminar where she said magic was a way to enhance what she was already saying/doing in the book, the “thesis statement” or emotions of characters, etc, and I REALLY loved that

There’s a lot of discourse (I can’t think of a better word rn) about animal bodies and taxidermy and ecofeminism that I think distinguishes the ways/reasons why this is different to collecting trophies or having no respect for other forms of life, would recommend checking these discussions out!
