every suburb needs a downtown
This is a rendering of a new building that is approved for Sackville Dr @ Hillcrest *currently Sackville Professional Centre
very creative in the surrounding neighbourhood
Someone on Facebook complained that the effort we spent holding a funeral for a raccoon-shaped traffic cone would have been put to better use picking up litter. We can do that too – meet at the diverter this Saturday. #BikeHfx
I think the general advice of “don’t go in the woods” was correct, but it was overly broad. I think of the BLT, a path lots of people use to commute, being closed due to the ban.
Poster commemorating the 25th anniversary of Bicycle Day, featuring a man relaxing on a bicycle with one leg upraised behind him, a mountain, a moon, a sun, the number 25 in a star, and 1943 written at the bottom.
Text: Within an hour, Hofmann began to notice changes in his perception and senses. He decided that he should go home, so he hopped on his bicycle and began riding. Because the drug was already greatly affecting him, he had his laboratory assistant help guide him to his house. At times during his bicycle ride, he thought he was going insane, thought his neighbor was a witch and thought the LSD had poisoned him. He later wrote in LSD: My Problem Child, "On the way home, my condition began to assume threatening forms. Everything in my field of vision wavered and was distorted as if seen in a curved mirror. I also had the sensation of being unable to move from the spot. Nevertheless, my assistant later told me that we had traveled very rapidly." Needless to say, his bicycle ride was quite a trip. On April 19, 1943, Swiss chemist/LSD inventor Albert Hoffmann whipped up a batch and went for a bike ride. That day is now commemorated in various parts of the world as Bicycle Day (not to be confused with the UN's World Bicycle Day, June 3.)

+1 to all this. MTBs & hybrids also have a nice upright riding position. Easier to get used to than the more ‘forward’ position of bikes with drop bars.
I get the feeling there’s some big Bike Energy in Halifax once again this summer.
Looks like we’re going to have a busy summer 🚴 🚴♀️ 🚴♂️
“This country is too big for trains.”
Have we tried making them fast?
A bunch of people and bikes outside at the Halifax oval
A small pylon dressed up as a raccoon with a yellow safety vest and bow in its hair
Huge turnout for the #KidicalMassHFX Spring Social at the oval today. Lots of humans and a few raccones. It was really nice getting to see everyone. I think it's safe to say bike season has started

This popped up in a feed and I think it's a great idea for #BikeHfx families, so sharing here. Details in alt text.
Our family is still getting comfortable on mountain bike trails and we'll definitely aim to try a few rides
gonna go ride bikes about it either way

is the anxiety coming from within or is it just *gestures broadly*
“16% of commercial taxes and 10.4% of residential taxes are collected in D7. If we include D5, 7, 8 & 9 (Downtown Dartmouth & the 3 peninsula districts) those portions rise to 35% and 30% respectively. We need to have a thriving downtown (socially and financially) to have a sustainable municipality”
this really makes the whole idea even more yee-haw
I really miss running old Lightroom on a big desktop iMac. Everything just worked!
might be far enough out for the whole AI bubble to pop, and save saddling yourself with a massive building that can’t really be repurposed
Three raccoon characters sitting on a concrete curb at the intersection of Allan and Harvard in Halifax. They are holding signs.
Scritchy has returned, with helpers! #BikeHfx #PylonWars
yes
it is not inevitable or even likely that social media, as we know it, will exist for the rest of our lives. future generations will look much more harshly on this stuff than we do smoking.
The BLT Trail is no longer under active management (April 1), as the BLT Trail Association returned its letter of authority to the province (lack of resources). Now seeking a new board & association members. Community meeting April 15, 6 pm, BLT Community Center.

this is a GORGEOUS kids bike, oh my lord
Ok this looks fun
glad you enjoyed your stay! The hiking trail along the rail cut is one of my favourite haunts.
A screenshot of Flightradar24, showing a USAF C-17 globemaster deparing from Gander airport.
It’s also entirely possible it’s a US plane. The US military has been flying a looot of cross-Atlantic cargo flights. St. John’s and Gander are busy refuelling sports.
sick of these catholic converts showing up and saying "well I have a different interpretation of the scripture" no you don't. that's protestantism and a heresy. don't like it there's the (incredibly beautiful and heavily ornamented with precious metals) door
Rear of a c17 globemaster
Rear of a c130
looks like a C-130? Globemaster has its horizontal stabilizer at the top of the vertical stabilizer, C-130’s is below
