Our study reveals that a this novel asymmetry has evolved through the co-option of a pre-existing tissue remodeling process. Tissue rotation represents a previously unreported mechanism, through which a bilateral organ can acquire a left-right size asymmetry.

Evolution of a novel left-right asymmetry in organ size by co-option of a tissue rotation process Highlighted Article: Drug treatments, transgenics and CRISPR mutants reveal that the extent and direction of a novel male genital left-right asymmetry in Drosophila pachea depend on male genitalia rotation, a global developmental tissue remodeling process.

Deeply honored to be among the finalists of
@dev-journal.bsky.social 's 2025 Outstanding Paper Prize for the latest article of my PhD, together with Michael Lang, @courtier-orgogozo.bsky.social and our colleagues!

A switch to non-proliferative growth sustains Drosophila wing development during the early pupal stage Using precise tissue volume quantification, El Marzkioui, Gaugué, et al. show that wing primordia continue to grow during the early pupal stage, a phase of increased cell volume driven by insulin/IGF ...

Our new paper is out in @currentbiology.bsky.social! Using 3D reconstructions and volume measurements in Drosophila wing primordia, we show that growth can be uncoupled from cell proliferation and uncover a new time window for growth arrest.

Automorphy as a self-organizing DPP-dependent process that translates patterns into mechanical programs during Drosophila embryogenesis Automorphy gets the morph into the morphogen.

My PhD work is out in Science Advances! We show how DPP drives tissue morphogenesis by encoding local mechanical programs iteratively, unraveling a self-organizing mechanism linking morphogen gradients to tissue dynamics.

We currently have a call for support that has gone out to European labs, to support FlyBase-UK. We are asking our colleagues from labs in the US and other countries to wait for a similar call to them that will go out in the near future, to support the US sites. We thank you for your patience.
