„Man kann sich ja kaum auf den Ton von Donald Trump einlassen, denn das ist dann wie beim Limbo tanzen 'how low can you go'. Das wird ja für niemanden besser. (...) In der Sache muss (Europa) dann schon manchmal Kante zeigen“, sagt @weissmartin.bsky.social in #zurSACHE.

The weird resilience of the EU A decade into the age of nationalism, the idea of quitting the club is still remarkably taboo

Great article by J. Ganesh. It's weird indeed, how resilient the EU is given all the criticism and animosity towards it. That "21% of Austrians think membership is a bad thing. That makes them the most Euro-sceptical people in the union" is - to me - even more weird...

The endorsement of Viktor Orban by the Trump administration - and by Vladimir Putin, for that matter - could hardly have been any stronger. But all of it seems to have mattered....very little

Stimmt auch wieder. Ich wundere mich schon länger, was da so alles geht....

Nope it ain't - sorry 😄 .
But I'd really be curious to hear what Hungarians think about this last ditch effort. Big brother telling you what to do on election day. That's supposed to work? Like really??

Can't say that I know nearly enough about Hungarian domestic politics. But I'm pretty sure that if an American Vice-President would be dispatched to Austria in a last minute effort to influence Austrian voters this would completely and utterly backfire

Now that this latest conflict seems to be over, a strong argument can be made that President Obama achieved more vis-a-vis Iran with his Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (e.g. strong monitoring & verification vs. nothing today) than President Trump did with his course of war & escalation

"Article 52 of the first additional protocol to the Geneva conventions prohibits attacks on civilian targets. It is on those grounds that the international criminal court has issued arrest warrants for Russians responsible for attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure"

Important quote, given current developments:
"Then you are not at 30,000 feet, you're at 6 feet. And you're at the same height as your potential opponent."

In one of his latest tweets (on X)
@glcarlstrom.bsky.social described the current US-strategy as "frantically trying to tweet its way through a war that has not gone at all the way it expected..."

That's not particularly reassuring I'd say

Iran Believes It’s Winning—and Wants a Steep Price to End the War Tehran sees an opportunity to control the Middle East’s energy as it bets on outlasting Trump’s will—a risky gamble.

“There is an outcome of this war that makes the regime more entrenched and more militaristic, with a new mythology around survival and around managing to withstand the U.S. and Israel.”
