Some residents admitted 3 times as many patients with pneumonia than their peers
Most differences persisted when controlling for time

Methods: Over a 10-year period (2010-19), we linked senior IM residents to the patients they cared for during overnight call
Then we measured case exposure variables across 6 domains (eg volumes, acuity)
We observed large differences in resident experiences

Excited for our work featured in @jama.com! We found wide variation in case exposures (eg patient diagnoses) between IM residents and training sites, even in the same program
