Both GOP Senate and Assembly leaders announced they would leave the session "open" to continue discussions and get public input about nonpartisan redistricting. Evers responded saying there is "nothing to negotiate."
Tony Evers called the special session to ban partisan gerrymandering.
Unlike the governor's past special sessions, Republicans did not immediately reject Evers' call for action.
Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu gaveled in the special session and immediately recessed the Senate chamber, to the objections of Democrats. Republicans did the same in the Assembly.
