For the nature blindness, they introduce in the second animation, a few different leaf shapes by musical section. Gold small leaves for flutes. Bigger broader red autumn leaves (like maple) for the strings. It even goes out of its way to show different seed shapes and how they behave.
It's a visual introduction - step by step - to symbolic thinking. 'This is what a horn looks like.' 'This is is what violins might look like.' 'This is what a swelling orchestra might mean.' You can see the logic in the animations, it feels sequential and understandable
Follow up to Fantasia post. Part of the reason I think it's so good re: imaginative thinking is that there's a narrator before every animation, who *explains* what they are doing. And the first animation is showing simply how colour can interpret sound. And then shapes. Then symbols. Then animations
Currently rewatching Fantasia (the first one) for the first time in a while, and it's just occurred to me that this is an excellent animation for:
- helping people with nature blindness
- helping folks understand imaginative thinking and symbolic thinking
- just in general it fucking slaps
