It's not on your list, but I'd suggest Little Canada. It's a 45,000 square foot miniature Canada, including a theoretical bullet train! It is super well done, right on the subway line, and a perfect way to kill 1-3 hours in the city.

Many school boards are also requiring more insurance than they used to and/or requiring proof of insurance in cases where they didn't before. It's bigger than just PTBO. Are we becoming more litigious?
Worth sending some of the Doug Ford $$ to support @ptbocurrents.bsky.social !
Screenshot of a newsletter. Letter mentions car insurance premiums dropping in the UK due to reduced speed limits and fewer accidents.
Reading this take on lower speed limits from Wealthsimple's newsletter really gives me hope for sensible policies addressing car-centric planning. Maybe advocating for safer streets from an economic perspective is the way to go!
I love that it's pretty neutral language. Not actually saying it was a Nazi salute nor even that it looked like one. Just that people made that comparison.

Our future government (it seems) coming out to lower capital gains taxes... Really looking out for the working class there...
Trudeau resigns and is immediately handed this unifying (for most of us) issue.
See, the joke doesn't land if you substitute Canada... Too close to the status quo unfortunately
With my short commute, removing the CAI will cost me.
I really miss my old Mazda B2300. Standard transmission, 4 cylinder truck. Fuel efficiency of a car. Only as high as crossover so easy to drive and park. And a 6' bed! The modern version is gigantic in comparison.
Really love this one:
2. Speak at City Hall in support of something good for your community and city
It's important not to take positive change for granted and to counter the NIMBY groups
It also makes it harder for them to ban books.
"Municipal budgets are fiendishly complex. That’s a problem. It discourages citizen engagement and disempowers residents."
And this citizen thanks @ptbocurrents.bsky.social for making the information accessible!
Bikes can get out of the way far easier than cars in traffic. This sight is common in places with decent bike infrastructure.

🔊 Time for our annual budget podcast! 🔊
Why are PTBO citizens facing another big tax hike? Could the city boost revenue without raising taxes? Or are spending cuts the answer? What role do the provincial and federal governments play?
Lots to discuss!

Hopefully council allows this development. It costs pennies to provide utilities and public services at 1400 Monaghan compared to urban sprawl. I'm all for heritage, but not at the cost of large tax increases and environmental degradation.
Not sure it's the type of tool you're looking for, but Civix has a strategy that I really like. It's called "lateral reading" and leverages our ability to find multiple sources in seconds. Built for students but relevant for everyone.

#Ptbo GreenUP calls on community to help sustain its work on local climate action and resilience. Non-profit environmental charity is facing a critical challenge with reductions in government funding. kawarthanow.com/2024/11/28/p...
A narrow walkway in Tokyo. The sides of the street are lined with shops and what look to be residences.
If we want better fashion culture in the US, we have to lower the cost of housing and commercial real estate, support independent craftspeople, build denser neighborhoods, improve walkability, and get rid of overly restrictive zoning laws. Let kook culture thrive.
If there's one person I trust on the topic of bike lanes, it's Sue. Highly recommend this read. #PTBO
If only Lego was affordable enough to do every evening!
Anyone else have the Month Python 'what did Rome do for us?' bit in their head after this?
As a careers teacher, I love how much Mr Marron features in your Amazon bio. I also love that you (eventually) proved him wrong!
I had a teacher's college prof really discourage use of 'guys'. Her understanding being that it was a gendered term. Most of the ~22 year old students disagreed. Seems like a example of language adapting over a generation.
I use it in teaching, but less than I would have without that influence.
Do we have the stats on how many days the canal is actually open annually? I felt like it opened and closed again a lot last winter. It's a great place to skate but council saving community rinks and climate change make this cut palpable for me.
I really like the idea of free ridership for high school students. Great way to get transit users for life and give teens some additional freedom, without the huge expense of a first car.
Ah, hybrids and significant modifications. I hate the expensive but I guess that makes sense.
Thanks for the clear reporting here!
Any idea why 2 cars and 2 e bikes cost $164,000? Building in the lifetime cost of maintenance and insurance or something?
Heads up - a brand new starter pack just dropped! This one features all my climate science colleagues from across the Great North who are tackling the climate crisis with expertise, innovation, and a uniquely 🇨🇦 perspective—since when it comes to climate, we’re all connected! 🍁
