Rumors-gossip-cattiness-back stabbing- occasionally positive-all part of being on social media unfortunately! What happens when a small group of students start posting fake content to prove a point? Gotta love how author @barbaradee.bsky.social thinks!!

Thanks, I just saw it on BCWS, I think Richter used to be the old Barriere Lakes Road until it washed out. It's closer to town than the Lakes.

Yikes! Do you know how close to town?

Why do we live in such a childish, stupid country? A country that wastes its money on useless billion dollar aircraft carriers, when it could be spending those tax dollars to actually help its citizens like sane countries.

"The downside of adult offloading is people get less sharp. The downside of adolescents growing up delegating to AI is a generation that was never sharp to begin with. Protecting the space our children need to develop the foundational skills of thinking is now a non-negotiable." -Timothy Cook

Kid: What’s the hardest part about being an author?
Me: To write fiction, you need to be a sensitive person, bc you need to be hyper aware of people’s feelings, including yr own. But you also need to be tough, bc an author’s life is full of rejection & criticism. And that combo is hard to pull off.

The obvious problem with AI is that it will never innovate any fiction. There will never be anything new that it writes. It’s autocorrect on a macro scale. I want to read new things. I want to read fresh things seen with fresh eyes. Not a remix of literally everything I’ve read before.

@jamiedodd.bsky.social I am so shocked by this hockey game but devastated by the damage to The Reverse 2011.

I was glad the launch was after school for just that reason. Now I know how to talk about it with my class.

53 years ago today, the last U.S. combat troops left South Vietnam, ending America’s direct role in the Vietnam War.

I remember seeing this anti-war PSA back then. Its message is sadly still very relevant today as Trump drags us into another unpopular war.

Learning can be uncomfortable because thinking through hard concepts is, well, hard. What I am starting to see is that students that rely on AI have a lower tolerance for the discomfort and patience that learning requires.

Thanks for this, it's incredible. It sent me down a rabbit hole of reading her other essays. I hadn't read this one, but Why Children's Books is essential for me as a teacher and librarian and I just read that one again. I love her children's books but haven't read her other works enough.

I don't think people fully appreciate how apocalyptic things are for US science. I haven't had any new funding since 2024, but I'm still ok since typical grants are for three years. This means next year I will be completely out of funding and will have to fire everyone in the lab. It's not great.

A rate freeze is a terrible policy response to rising electricity rates.

A rent freeze is a terrible policy response to rising rents.

A data center moratorium is a terrible policy response to rising grid pressures.

All for the same basic reason: it doesn't solve the problem.
