How Hackers Are Fighting Back Against ICE A few enterprising hackers have started projects to do counter surveillance against ICE, and hopefully protect their communities through clever use of technology.

ICE has spent hundreds of millions on surveillance. Some technologists are building tools to find it, map it, and push back. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...

I am delighted for a life so full of things inspiring gratitude. How rich we are, in this at least.

therapist: take a break.
me: sure.... let me just send a calendar invite to my anxiety and guilt

5 months ago 2 2 0 0

Therapist: May I suggest you take a break?

Me: Sure! OK! So. I want to be optimally relaxed. I'd like to maximize how refreshed I feel in the shortest amount of time possible. What's the best tactic? How do I reach peak rest? How do I win resting? Can I min/max my leisure?

Therapist: Oh no.

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.

CDC quietly stopped checking food supply for 6 pathogens (campylobacter, cyclospora, listeria, shigella, vibrio and yersenia) about two months ago, leaving everyone more vulnerable.

Less food surveillance = less food safety.

Pronouncing the names correctly at the Hugo ceremony The Hugo ceremony needs to be treated seriously by the organisers. And this year, they didn’t.

Excellent post from @nwhyte.bsky.social, an experienced Hugo administrator, detailing the solved problem of ensuring that names and works are correctly pronounced at the ceremony.

Someone once said NextDoor is the social network for dogs if they could type. It’s always “what’s that noise?” and “who’s that stranger?” which is exactly what I imagine my dogs would text other neighborhood dogs.

From the massachusetts community on Reddit Explore this post and more from the massachusetts community

When someone posts about resisting #ICE, there are often knee-jerk comments about "illegals" even when we've seen how much they're targeting people with legal status. Some are trolls, but some honestly think that way. How to get some to shift their thinking?

“I believe it has been ratified” is not “I have ordered the National Archivist to certify the ERA as the thirty-fourth amendment to the Constitution, and publish it as such.”

Doing that four years ago would have been better.

An official directive to ratify the amendment? That would be a thing to do, instead of just tossing it offhand.

Doing it sooner than three days before the inauguration? Also a thing to do.
