This is an under utilized solution, which I always like.
It can be even more simple if you just have a typing tone for the speech text that you pitch shift for characters, each character gets a different tone. Simple, fills some of the quiet, gives a touch of personality per character.

This is similar to my argument. The protections that cash have to be accepted are becoming toothless in a society moving more and more towards electronic only payments.
Because of this move, if the government doesn't offer same as cash electronic payments, banks have to be regulated to do so.
