PSA: It’s not okay to bash writers for sharing links to their works on Amazon.

I know Amazon is shitty but it’s not on writers who are just trying to survive to change a whole distribution system that is deeply ingrained, no matter how bad that system is.

And for those of us who wish to create a fairer society, cynicism is the antithesis of the empathy that is crucial to such an endeavour. So by all means, take a break from the struggle. Spend some time recharging your batteries. But don’t succumb to the idea that nothing will ever change, 9/11

WE ARE STILL IN THIS.
Wipe your tears.
This is the difficult business of hope and defying expectation.
We do not give up.
We run through the tape.

Y’all aren’t allowed to throw in the towel until I do. 😉

Big breath. Locked in. Let’s do this.

Saw someone upbraiding someone else for having a hobby while the world is on fire, and, my friends:

1. The world is ever on fire, this is today's conflagration;

2. If you don't find time for rest and joy the fire will consume you;

3. Don't let people shame you for being an entire human.

Yeah it's a PUBLIC bathroom, not a "women's private space." My private space is my home. This bathroom discourse is an excuse to be a bigot, full stop

A good way to find people to follow (aka find all the people I used to follow ELSEWHERE) is the "popular with friends" feed. If anyone else is new and needs a hack

Generative A.I. For Writers: An Unfolding (But Not Inevitable) Nightmare! I have seen the sentiment around that generative AI for writers and artists is “inevitable,” which is a message that I think falls right in line with the myth of the starving artist &#8…

The intrusion of AI will demand writers (and editors, artists, anybody who makes anything) forcibly push back and stand firm against this wood chipper that just wants to turn your work into sawdust that can be used to make mediocre artistic particleboard. fascism is stopped when enough people say one of two things:
1) "nah, I'm not doing that"
2) "nah, you're not doing that"

a lot of people want to imagine how they'll say the second thing, but you should *really* start practicing the first one

The discourse over twitter & leaving vs staying is getting truly goofy in some directions.

Twitter is not a *place* ffs. Twitter without the people is nothing. We have 100% of the power over whether twitter has value or not.

When we leave, we're not ceding ground? We're taking the ground with us.

screenshot from publishers weekly saying: "President-elect Donald J. Trump appears ready to once again paint a target on book publishers and media outlets publishing work critical of him, with Penguin Random House and the New York Times each receiving a letter threatening a $10 billion lawsuit in the weeks leading up to the 2024 presidential election."

I need publishing to get the message: no amount line toeing will appease this guy. Don't abandon your marginalized authors to make nice with him. Stand behind us and FIGHT his bullshit with all you've got. Please, don't be a coward about this--a lot of us writing the books don't have that luxury.

Do you really believe they would outright ban vaccines? Wouldn't that mess up the pharmaceutical companies too much?

It’s important to remember that resisting takes many forms—including throwing sand in the gears and just not… rolling over in advance—and they’re all needed and useful.

The only reason anti-vax attitudes were able to take root in the modern era is because vaccines are so fucking good at their job people forgot why we need them

What if this IS the moral arc of the universe, and rounding them all up to be tied up in incompetence and in-fighting for 4 years actually does some good in the world 🤔

Hey it's November 14th and I just exceeded the number of hours I've ever spent on my writing in one year, and I still got a month and a half to go :)

I downloaded my data but then deleted my account. If enough people leave entirely, maybe it'll become obsolete and what's his name can also just go away
