A nice story about a local "village" that's much more walkable (and more easily and safely accessible by bike from neighbouring burbs) thanks to some recent street upgrades.*
*which the article doesn't mention, but which are clearly playing a role in the resurgence: www.stuff.co.nz/home-propert...

Ohhh, I can only encourage people to grab this book. It's a delight and my 84yr old mum has enjoyed just dipping into it. The perfect gift for anyone.
Can recommend. My mum 84ish, who always says 'no presents' at Christmas received one and has reported that this is a delightful tome to pick up and flick through.
This may (or may not) be your jam. I enjoy the variety and it's very reasonable on the $$. www.moveitmama.co.nz They've also just set up an app which is amazing.
Steve and Brad have finally managed to take the Christmas tree down.
One of ours will be crossing over to Australia in '26. Successfully completed an electrical pre-trade course in 2024 but just can't get into the industry. Living in Wellington doesn't help. And he's desperate for consistently better weather.
It's Christmas Quiz time. 20 festive questions which are probably too hard - sorry. Please share so others can suffer

Wellingtonians DO NOT DRIVE NORTH ON SH1, there's been a huge crash and everyone is being forced to take the Tawa offramp, queue is currently all the way back to the Churton overbridge
It took me a while to figure out filling the sink a little is a better idea than having a shower of diluted chicken juice.

I'd be keen (to put some in a pot). Am in the final week of my landscape design course, so would late Nov pickup be ok?
Pale peony in a garden.
They're beautiful, here's one from our garden.
Thanks! Hmmm, possibly for good, but I make no promises. I have a nasty habit of suddenly deciding to learn stuff.
Excellent news. I've ordered 1 for me and 1 for my lovely mum. This is an end of study treat (11 days of mahi to go) and Christmas present (shhh, don't tell!)
Such a disappointing result to have him back in a role he is unfit for.
That sucks, there's already more than enough admin needed to get through the day, this is deeply annoying. I hope all is sorted out quick-smart.
Oh, I'd love to knit these.
Just want to say that on a feed filled with tough stuff (politics and the likes), seeing positive posts started by you is a joyous thing. You (and those who have responded) have turned my (soggy - thanks Te Whanganui-a-Tara!) afternoon around. Many thanks.

A beautiful evening!
🧵Spotted on the School Holidays in Aotearoa New Zealand:
A young human (7?) swaggers into the library with Nana. He's got three book bags looped over his arm and is wearing a very serious expression.
Pausing by the door he says: "I'm going to be a while. These bags hold a LOT of books." (1)

Indeed, the sun is even warm (according to Keava who is taking a break from terrorising tui wanting afternoon tea)
We get biscuits delivered by these lovely people. (Keava also loves their frozen concentrated stuff) www.mightymix.co.nz
Thanks for this, it is a great guide to follow. I wish I'd been able to give it to someone (the drama teacher), who turned up soon after my sister-in-law's diagnosis and wept for 1.5 hours on SIL's shoulder.
Those of you who've been following me for a while may have seen me share this before, usually when I hear that someone has just learnt that they may or do have cancer.
While it's framed as how not to say the wrong thing to that person, I was so glad I knew about it before I ended up in the centre.
I've also been using the 'work for 25 mins, get outside for 5 mins (with no screen) and then back to work...' which has helped a lot. The chunk of time is enough to get stuff done and a break doesn't stop everything for too long.
A walk is an excellent thing to do. Fresh air and exercise will help with everything.
How are you getting on?
Our 15 year old was marched to the pharmacy this afternoon. Luckily a wee visit to Dough bakery sweetened the deal.
As my darling dad always said 'when all else fails, try the instructions'
