Cops Used DNA to Predict a Suspect’s Face—and Tried to Run Facial Recognition on It Leaked records reveal what appears to be the first known instance of a police department attempting to use facial recognition on a face generated from crime-scene DNA. It likely won’t be the last.

Using AI to create a face from crime-scene DNA & then running it through face recognition tech isn’t only “junk science,” EFF’s Jennifer Lynch told WIRED: “It’s very dangerous, because it puts people at risk of being a suspect for a crime they didn’t commit.”

How is social media defined? In the broadest sense, you are right. But in another sense Friendster, MySpace, Facebook, etc are a different class of social media and it makes sense to call it first gen if you classify it that way.

The vast majority of crypto and blockchain are scams or just badly implemented. There’s at least one that is solid tech with a long-term plan. Chia Network is doing it right. No hype, just solid tech being built slow and steady. I used to work there. Founder and CEO are experienced technologists.

Despite being a first-of-its-kind demonstration plant — and an active research site — Orca is also a commercial project. In fact, Gosalvez told me that Orca’s entire estimated capacity for carbon removal, over the 12 years that the plant is expected to run, sold out shortly after it began operating. The company is now selling carbon removal services from its yet-to-be-built Mammoth plant.

Is it just me that I find it slightly concerning that Climeworks already sells offsets for a plant that is not operational yet? Article worth reading, balanced, but highlights plenty of concerning issues with Climeworks. heatmap.news/economy/clim...

Hard no to Alan Dershowitz, Congressman Brian Mast, and anyone else asserting the blatantly false claim that all Palestinians are Hamas, or making horrific, bin Laden-style arguments that there's no such thing as civilians.
Those claims are factually and morally wrong. Badly wrong.

"we bombed the refugee camp"

"where there were refugees?"

"well there were terrorists hiding there too, among them"

"and, for that, refugees deserve to die?"

"well we told them to leave"

"you warned the terrorists to leave?"

"well the refugees"

"and the terrorists didn't get the message too?"

Ye Olde Candy Chute, as viewed from my second story.

Ye Olde Candy Chute, as viewed from my second story.

I built a Halloween candy chute in 2020 during the height of the COVID pandemic, which enables me to delivery candy from my second floor. It’s back for the fourth time!

If you actually believe this then you must believe Israel’s government should be removed since Israel has killed more people, more civilians, than Hamas ever has.

See how Israel’s siege has plunged Gaza into darkness and isolation Without power, Palestinians have been deprived of their most basic needs.

The effects can be seen from space. The Gaza Strip has plunged into darkness since Israel announced a “complete siege” on Oct. 9.

On Friday, the little connectivity Gaza had with the outside world appeared to be severed, amid reports of heavy bombardment.

Why are you bombing civilians?

To get to Hamas.

Why are you bombing Israeli hostages?

They are safe in tunnels with Hamas.

So you ARE bombing civilians.

Their lies are transparent.

Horrifying because this means there’s no concrete record of knowledge you can interface with. Reality becomes even more mediated with technology.

Hi from the future.Israel’s president went on TV holding a document claiming to be found on a Hamas soldier’s body. Claimed to be instructions for chemical weapons. After a brief search people discover the document was a biography of a terrorist. Be skeptical, always.

It is not anti-Israeli to condemn Benjamin Netanyahu. It is, in fact, pro-democracy and pro-peace to do so.

This is a very naive take. I’m a world full of misinformation, of course we should be skeptical. You make too many assumptions.
