The media is so unserious

And anybody who thinks that any academic field lacks “viewpoint diversity” has clearly never attended any academic conference where scholars are constantly disagreeing with one another on a range of different debates in our respective fields

How We Brought Respectful Debate Back to The Harvard Crimson’s Editorial Board

How We Brought Respectful Debate Back to The Harvard Crimson’s Editorial Board

To us, the solution is deceptively simple. Universities should create environments where students with different views must talk to one another routinely and establish ground rules that ensure they do so without distractions or prejudgment.

Illiberalism on college campuses isn’t inevitable. At The Crimson, it took only a few months to radically improve.

I will never understand how American elites managed to convince themselves that uncivil debate — not fascism, not impunity and not widespread indifference to facts — is the defining problem of our time.

Modeling scientific uncertainty in language: Applied linguistic insights from human and artificial intelligence texts As generative AI systems increasingly function as substitutes for traditional information-seeking tools, concerns have emerged about how these systems…

"These findings demonstrated that LLMs not only differ linguistically from human experts but also appear to compress and simplify the rhetorical space through which scientific uncertainty is conventionally expressed."

Jews and other minorities face similar levels of campus hostility, Brandeis survey finds The first academic survey assessing experiences nationally finds that Jewish, Black and Muslim students all face comparable negative attitudes from peers

60% of American Jewish college students are concerned about right-wing antisemitism, compared to 45% who are concerned about left-wing antisemitism. This is not what you would expect from media coverage of the issue. forward.com/news/818719/...

Human beings have also not gotten over this problem though! But I would rather deal with a human that makes mistakes but has the capacity to feel bad for it than an algorithm with no such capacity

I mean humans also make mistakes, which is why for me the issue isn’t the mistakes but lack of human decision-making

I worry that the focus on the mistakes or hallucinations of AI will end up backfiring as this technology inevitably gets more accurate. The issue for me is less one of accuracy and more of not wanting to cede human decision making to a disembodied algorithm with no moral compass.

Tweet from Elon Musk: "*Soros Organization has taken over Hungary"

Antisemitism is structurally necessary for Elon Musk's politics, because he wants to brand himself as the insurgent populist fighting the elite, but as the world's wealthiest person, he needs a definition of "elite" that is not strictly rooted in wealth or corporate ownership.

This presidential admin has tried to convince us that it actually cares about the supposed discrimination against Asians via affirmative action and presence of antisemitism at universities while also trying to convince us that efforts to combat anti-Muslim and anti-Black sentiment are illegal DEI

This administration relies on a scared media to handle his PR stunts as if they were news and then relies on a mostly uninformed public no longer paying attention when their PR stunts are exposed as lies.

Whenever people claim something offensive was just a joke the only legitimate follow up question is to ask what the person thought made it funny

LAX is such an awful airport that it is literally taking me longer to get a taxi out of the airport than my flight from Philadelphia took 😠

One of the reasons Dems have been so ineffective at resisting Trump is that when push comes to shove they actually agree with his imperial worldview though they would like US imperialism to be led by a slightly more diverse group of elites

A screenshot of a Facebook post by CBS 2 Boise. The post text reads: "A new state law required the City of Boise to take down the Pride flag outside City Hall. Tuesday morning, the City wrapped flag poles in Pride colors and added a new sign to the window on City Hall. CBS2 reached out to the Mayor and Governor’s office for comment."
Below the text is a collage of three photos showing these updates:
Left: A tall metallic flagpole in a plaza at night, with its lower section wrapped in horizontal stripes matching the colors of the Progress Pride flag (black, brown, light blue, pink, white, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple).
Top Right: A closer view of a flagpole base, also wrapped in horizontal Progress Pride flag colors.
Bottom Right: A large window on City Hall featuring a graphic with diagonal stripes in the Progress Pride colors alongside the text, "Creating a city for everyone."

Oh, this is good. Idaho passed a bill banning local cities from flying the Pride flag. So the cities decided to wrap the poles themselves in pride colors.

This is amazing.

White critical scholars: Neoliberalism is about social class, not race.

White people in the actual world: Will destroying an entire civilization be good or bad for the market?

Iran is an oppressive regime whose worldview is antithetical to the progressive world I am fighting to create.

At the same time, them refusing to back down from Trump’s bullying reveals him as the fraud he always was.

The emperor has no clothes and it is about time we loudly name that reality.

Not sure why his income is relevant to being progressive and not sure what a white politician being gay has to do with him suggesting a POC is not one of “us.” Focusing on his experience seems a much better angle than saying he is rich and not from here to me. But I don’t vote there so you do you ❤️

San Francisco’s establishment moves to sink a progressive House candidate — POLITICO In the race to succeed Nancy Pelosi, tech centimillionaire Saikat Chakrabarti has power brokers in San Francisco on edge.

I am not from San Francisco so have not been following this campaign closely but the establishment supported white man questioning whether his primary opponent who is the son of Indian immigrants is “really from here” feels like a dangerous message in these political times

The entire liberal non-profit model is based on small carve outs for particular constituents/groups w/in a neoliberal austerity framework. The idea that the state cld provide quality services for all, by progressive taxation, is a threat to their model & ideological understanding of the world

Then they came for the Brown guys because they have always wanted a government run for and by white guys.

You all got played.
