It’s been a long process, and, after a recount of about 75% of the votes cast, there were only a few votes in it.
Today we did not win. But we are not defeated. Hard things are hard, and a better kind of politics is worth fighting for.

The Australian Electoral Commission has agreed to conduct a partial recount in Goldstein.
The recount will look at first preference ballot papers for myself and Tim Wilson, and all informal ballot papers.
I will be making no further comment until the process is complete.
I’ve asked the AEC whether a recount is appropriate in Goldstein. They will judge that request on its merits. Thank you again everyone for your support. ZD
The result in Goldstein is obviously close and it will be some days before the result is confirmed.
