A small butane canister with a burner attached. Canister is clamped to a ring stand. The apparatus is on a lab bench with a fire extinguisher and emergency eyewash station in the background. A striker is nearby.

Okay, okay professional sports and all, but for the rest of us, whatever happened to the days of It’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game. I miss those days.

I think a personal statement gives you a broader range of things to talk about (what are you interested in) whereas a statement of purpose is fairly targeted (what are your goals and why).
We need to address this before students get to you. I teach high school, where we have more control over students. I recommend: no computers during class time and all assignments completed in writing, in class. If a student sneaks home work to finish with AI, dock the grade, then give a 0 next time.
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.
Which senators are supporting this beyond those three? I can’t find that info.
Would be interesting to brew up a batch.
