I was talking about politics and the internet with a progressive friend yesterday and he said "The fight is not in the comments section."
I'll be quoting him for a long time.

How does the British museum have so many incredible artifacts compared to other museums? the secret ingredient is crime.
The History Club students decorated their office door and I have to say their meme game is pretty strong. #HistorySky #AcademicSky
I mean, can you imagine?
Though I guess we won't have to.
I sent my secretary an email asking her if we could get together this week to go over some paperwork I need to submit to the university. I forgot that she was on vacation. But she did answer me, she answered: "LOL" and attached photos of her campsite on the river. Looks beautiful! #AcademicSky
"Joe Biden was president for 4 years, why didn't he install Star Trek luxury space communism?!"
Oh good, another woke critique of liberals blaming them for not having used their secret and apparently infinite powers against the forces of evil. "Why does Obama refuse to use his anti-meanie spray on Mitch McConnell?!" JFC.
I'm going to go take a walk or something.
I'm going to go take a walk or something.
Going about as expected.
My chances of victory seem quite low. #Polytopia
best thing I am learning from Mamdani is to stay cheerful and keep going. Rage is tempting but it slows you down
That's so cool and I love your design. Is it vulgar to ask if a person could buy a sticker?
I dunno man.
8/ I think that two of the student groups came up with enough information for a conference paper, with some background reading in secondary sources. We ran out of time and will continue the work next week. /fin
7/ The students were so excited to put the puzzles together. They discovered: a pipefitter who became the "disciplinarian" at Chemawah Indian school, an expelled Carlisle runaway who became a peace and labor rights activist, an educator, and maybe a murderer.
6/ Then they went to the Washington State Archive, which includes the first state digital archive in the nation. Census, birth, marriage and death records filled out the stories of some Carlisle students. Others were mysteriously absent--perhaps moved out of state.
5/ Some student teams found just whisps of additional info, some found a flood. Everyone learned the advantages and disadvantages of researching unique or common surnames in the digital era! They got quite competitive but also helped each other.
4/ Student took their notes over to Newspapers.com (my uni has an institutional subscription, you could sub Chronicling America maybe?) to leverage the information. We limited searches to 1890-1940 and Washington and Oregon to focus the results.
3/ The larger files at the Carlisle site often include letters from former students about their lives, which Carlisle solicited. From these we got married names for the women, names of spouses and children, locations where the Carlisle student now lived. Take notes! I told them.
2/ I was pleased that students were able to navigate the short, clear cursive bits of the Carlisle records. They worked in pairs and were SO INTO IT, chatting away with one another excitedly. I worked the room to help with awkward cursive or digital blank walls.
1/ Had A GREAT class session! Gave a mini-lecture re Carlisle Indian School, had students research one student at this website. Then they went into newspapers dot com and the WA State Digital Archives to leverage what they found #HistorySky #AcademicSky

Nextdoor, where people who don't understand how things work go to be angry about it.
That was my class and I am still mad at you.
And yes I'm going to tell New Hire all about this conversation. She truly is a breath of fresh air.
Students were chatting after class.
Student 1: Are you in [Professor New Hire's] class?
Student 2: OMG yes isn't she so great?!
Student 3: She is such a breath of fresh air!
*they all shake their heads in agreement*
So I guess I am a stale fart or something? ;)
