Meta just paid the lowest effective federal tax rate in its history.

Thanks to tax breaks and loopholes, it avoided $13.7B in 2025 federal income taxes.

But now it's planning to lay off 10% of its global workforce (8,000 people) by May 20 — with more job cuts later this year.

Trickle down hoax.

This is true about so many aspects of NZ society. Houses and expensive (and terribly built), if you're poor you get a moldy shithole. Groceries are expensive, if you're poor you go hungry. Power is expensive, if you're poor you go cold.

It's fucking infuriating.

OMFG I had to go and check that this ACTUALLY happened.

Since when does the BBC ever do chyrons with a political party's branding, rather than their own? Not to mention this is during a pre-election campaign purdah.

NZ minimum wage is, roughly, $6 an hour below the living wage rate to be implemented in Sept 2026.

$6.

That's quite a chunk of cash.

see my consistent comments this year that nz media, across the board, are amplifying NZF populism while actively avoiding the fucked up and weird shit

that is an active and overt editorial choice by every major outlet in the country

why? and why is no one in media speaking out to question it?

In which the government doubles down on its classism... fuel shortages and cost-increases disproportionately impact those on lower incomes and from historically disadvantaged groups. I think we can take this as another strong indicator of how 'well' NAct1st are going to handle this crisis #Nzpol

Can we replace Chris Hipkins with Sam Neill? Imagine. The election would be in the bag…. Everyone loves Sam. #nzpol #Aotearoa #Kikorangi

The word ceasefire is meaningless to child killers.

the greens are failing to communicate how they will positively impact people's material reality

nzf is lying about how they will do so, aided and abetted by nz msm

i think thats basically the whole thing

Not lucky enough to avoid my shitty genetics unfortunately.

Mum is a laundry expert & she tried a few different things, with my health I don’t muck around with mould.

Thanks so much for the thought, really, but wool makes me want to unzip my skin-suit and walk right out of it 😬

It is and it adds up. More important to me my son has health insurance as I have most likely passed on my genetic condition and once diagnosed, if uninsured, it’s basically impossible to get insurance after that.

Synthetic, I can’t touch wool, my skin can’t handle! But they were good quality, warm & super soft.

I don’t have insurance unfortunately. Stupid I know.

I’m beyond gutted.

Yes that too, but the left aren’t great at communicating simply and to the masses…. We really need to start playing the game, & going on attack, it’s unfortunately what works in this day and age.

I think what happened is they were in containers that I thought were sealed, & it rained when shifting, and water must of got in, but Ive only found that out when I’ve gone to unpack the blankets as the weather has cooled. 😩

I don’t think that’s enough, just my uneducated opinion.

I say this as a Green/TPM voter who desperately wants a left govt, no, I don’t want it, I NEED it. Seeing Winston surge is making me feel despondent. 🥺

Very unpopular opinion: I think Green Party needs a single charismatic leader running an economic populist platform. I wish it wasn’t like that, but I think it is. In order to get good policy, you actually have to win first, or at least get enough numbers to have more say in a coalition. #nzpol
