The shield will block anything from small raptor's claw to mythical dragon's breath. It's so easy, even a rookie hunter can use it; and they do. The Kingdom entrusts their knights with it. The Guild provides it to hunters. Since the dawn of the would-become beloved series, the lance has become the hunter's weapon of choice. After that comes shielded heavy bowgun, gunlance, and charge blade. One thing is for sure, no one was using it to evade attacks.
