We Need to Prepare for the Mammoth Task of De-Trumpification The damage he and his cronies have wrought could take decades to repair, particularly when it comes to science and public health.

The task of de-Trumpification of science and public health will take a generation and a "Marshall Plan" to rebuild. Without a bold, expansive vision to guide us, there is no coming back. Small-bore, poll-tested versions of the future will not help us. www.thenation.com/article/soci...

The puzzle of human development by Rowan University Rowan University biologist, Natasha Shylo studies human development and asymmetry.

I suppose it's better late than never to mention that this September I started an Assistant Professor position at Rowan University @rowancsm.bsky.social. We will be doing cool work with chameleons 🦎 to understand early development, especially left-right patterning view.rowan.edu/the-human-pu...

As a pediatric resident in 2001 I saw an unvaccinated todler die of Hib meningitis/sepsis-- by far the worst death I've ever seen as a physician. I remember the senior pediatric attendings telling me how glad there were it was all but gone. I remember this child when I fight against antivaxxers.

Unforgivable. RFK, Jr. needs to be Nuremberg'd along with the rest of Trump's criminal regime.

A deadly bacterial disease is returning, doctors warn, as vaccination rates fall Hib once killed 1,000 children a year, permanently disabling many more. Doctors who've never seen the disease say the comeback is changing the way they practice medicine.

“The last night I was a pediatric resident, a child came in with Hib and promptly died by the next day. I didn’t work for 50 years to have everything destroyed by one man.”

-Dr. Kathryn Edwards, Vanderbilt University

This is what RFK Jr. and the anti-vaxxers have wrought.

Screenshot from our lesson on geometric layers, showing two examples of a timeline (with made-up data just for showcasing): first as overlapping areas – via geom_area(position = "identity") – and one with relative share by simply using position = "fill" instead.

For today's #30DayChartChallenge #Day1 "Part-to-Whole", I'm not sharing a polished #dataviz but a lesser-known #ggplot2 trick 🧙‍♀️

Turn your area chart into a timeline of relative shares by changing the position argument to "fill" 🤙

Two common misconceptions when repurposing data for #causalinference:
1) the target trial is an ideal trial
2) the target trial protocol can be prespecified

Our new paper examines how the target trial protocol depends on the causal question AND the available data.

A grey rock that has a beautiful fossil trilobite. The rock is rough, but the trilobite sections are smooth. One of the main features is a compound eye, made of of many lenses.

The beautiful preservstion of trilobite compound eyes will never cease to amaze me. On this little 400ish million year old Phacops you can see all the little lenses - each one a rigid calcite mineral crystal! Together they had excellent 360° vision, perfect for finding lunch on the seafloor.
