This is beside the point, but Chris Higgins is a gem. I grew up in St. Louis, and Chris has hosted a weather blog on his own dime since the early '00s. That forum was the single biggest push for me to pursue meteorology, and Chris took the time to give me career advice before heading to undergrad.

I am a bit more optimistic about the start of fire season down here, though, it just takes one decent wetting rain through early June for a soft-reset on the fuels.

It's not breaking news, but I went to use the SVI tool today and it's just gone. There is no objective reason to mass-delete government datasets besides pure spite and indifference.
