Who Funds Nigel Farage? Mapping His Millions Reform UK leader Nigel Farage is the highest-paid Member of Parliament. In less than two years as the MP for Clacton, Farage has racked up £2 million in personal income and gifts, on top of his £94,00...

With Farage making a shed load of money from bitcoin and an assortment of weird companies, we’ve launched a map and live tracker of his income 👇🏻👇🏻

I've never had a Fakebook account. It never appealed to me, even before it became widely known that Meta were harvesting the personal data of users.

It's unfathomable that despite all the evidence many working people still seem under the delusion that millionaire grifters Tice and Farage are on their side.

Anyone who isn't disturbed about the climate impacts likely to be experienced through the latter part of this century either hasn't understood the seriousness of the situation of is too selfish to care about the legacy we will leave to future generations.

That doesn't have to happen if we get serious about decarbonisation of our economies before loss of a larger proportion of the ice sheets is committed. The maximum sea-level contribution from melting ice would actually be 65 m (58 m from Antarctica and 7 m from Greenland, other ice is <0.5 m).

I agree. My top tip for anyone with small children, speaking from experience, is don't count on taking them around in a pushchair. There are a lot of bridges to go up and down over.

"The study’s author says Venice exemplifies the challenges that many low-lying coastal areas will face due to sea-level rise over the coming centuries, including the Maldives and the Netherlands."
For the UK, add the Fens, Broads, Somerset Levels and areas flanking the Thames Estuary to that list.

Enjoy it while it lasts! With the high probability that an El Niño is on the way, anyone who wants to find reassurance in short-term cooling would be advised to make the most of the next few months.

I can think of a few glaciers people wouldn't want to age at the same speed as.

By using the same language as deniers to disparage the work of thousands of honest and hard-working researchers you are not helping us to communicate important messages about how climate is changing and the questions that need further research.

I'm still not convinced we have a full understanding of fluctuations in Antarctic sea-ice extent. It undoubtedly involves complex interactions of atmospheric and ocean processes, and there are large year-to-year between different sectors. Thus I'm sceptical of any 'one size fits all' explanation.

I like the symbolism but I hope the guardians of the SCAR gazeteer would find reasons not to accept any such proposed renaming.

Yesterday @klausdodds.bsky.social eloquently articulated a view similar to the one you outlined above in a lecture @bas.ac.uk. Trump taking an interest in Antarctica remains hypothetical though and at present he seems fully occupied by the crises he has started in other regions.

I think he'd like to get his paper reviewed and published before the details are discussed widely, but essentially he's exploring idea that the chain of changes at this time start with the ice sheets.

I sent a link to the paper to a colleague who is working on models for the MPT.

Seems like a chicken and egg problem. Did changes in the AL reshape glacial-interglacial cycles or vice-versa? In either case, the key question is what was the driver that initiated the changes.

Shutdown of northern Atlantic overturning after 2100 following deep mixing collapse in CMIP6 projections Shutdown of northern Atlantic overturning after 2100 following deep mixing collapse in CMIP6 projections, Drijfhout, Sybren, Angevaare, Joran R, Mecking, Jennifer, van Westen, René M, Rahmstorf, Stefan

The #AMOC by 2100 will thus be so weak (~8 Sv) that it is very likely on the way to full shutdown, as our study last year showed: iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1...
In my view, this now makes a full #AMOC shutdown more likely than not. Definitely not a low likelihood risk, as we used to think.

Breaking: New study using observational constraints projects that the Atlantic Ocean circulation #AMOC will weaken ~50% by 2100, even for medium emissions and without Greenland melting. 🌊
More realistic models means stronger weakening - not entirely unexpected.

The certainty with which a person holds opinions about such topics correlates with their degree of ignorance.

I guess there's a reason it's called 'populism'. Supposedly simple solutions to complex problems can seem appealing until people engage their brains.

A culture dedicated to the short-term enrichment of its members, and to hell with the consequences for future generations.

I'd rather not, because that would involve a lot of misery for many people who don't vote for these clowns.
Also, long before areas are permanently inundated people will suffer flooding events with increasing frequency that will render their properties uninsurable and unsellable.

A clown show took place in Washington DC last week.
🤡
Some the ignorance exposed by the quoted statements would be hilarious if the stakes weren't so high.
It would be interesting to know how many (any?) of those who attended have PhDs in subjects such as meteorology, oceanography, glaciology etc.

I just read this morning that the 'primary construction routes' the EWR Co have indicated they plan to use include Mill Road, running 'more than 10 HGVs in each direction per day’.
This illustrates the utter cluelessness of the people planning this project.

All the evidence presented in previous non-statutory consultations that the proposed approach to Cambridge is wrong seems to have made little difference, so how can anyone have any confidence in this one?

Imagine owning a restaurant where the chef pays you to cook in your kitchen but then they pay you again to eat the food.

And you pay the sous chefs, waiters, and hosts nothing.

That’s modern academic publishing.

It frustrates me that so many people don't seem to be able to join the dots.

It would be highly ironic if councils in this region, which is a part of the UK most seriously threatened by climate change, end up being controlled by a party that denies it is happening.
If you don't want this absurd outcome, get out and vote to prevent it.

Recent events have highighted that economic and national security considerations are now aligning more closely with environmental ones, so there is hope that recent backsliding by governments can be turned around.

I'm expecting that the mid-terms will give the regime something to ponder on.
