Emily uses sterile forceps to load filters onto filter holders in one of the labs on the R/V Atlantic Explorer. Emily is using the filters to capture particles, including microbes, from the seawater. The DNA from the microbial cells will be extracted, sequenced, and analyzed to understand the microbial community composition of the seawater. Photo by Arianna Krinos.
