This. Double-standards abound, so while I'm no fan of Starmer the most spiteful critics can fuck off. Especially the Today and WATO team on the BBC.

As prime ministers' appointments seem to be newsworthy at the moment, did we ever find out what Charlotte Owen's achievements were, to justify her elevation to the House of Lords as Baroness Owen of Alderley Edge at age 30, by 🤡?

Not wanting to put the work in sums it up. They turn to AI even when specifically told it's not allowed, and some even declare what they've done so there's my evidence of not listening or following instructions. They even use AI to find references which is harder than using Google scholar.

Well, they don't listen, don't read instructions, miss lectures and can't seem to apply concepts from one scenario to another. Not all of them of course, and these things have always happened, but this year there seem to be more of them doing/not doing these things.

I teach foundation year engineering students. This will be my last year and my feeling, based on assessment, is that some UK schools are failing their pupils. This is probably the worst cohort yet* but it's our students who are the least able to succeed.
*Of course not all of them

The sad reality is that everyone knew Mandelson was deeply compromised.
However, he potentially had the skill set and contacts to deal with the POTUS. Rightly or wrongly, the national interest trumped the victims of Epstein.
Sometimes, it's better not to know the contents of a sausage.

I think the answer is Starmer was advised to appoint Mandelson because it would help in dealing with Mango Mussolini and any misgivings he might have had were stomped on and criticism - including vetting failure - suppressed.
Let's also not forget BoJo wasn't cleared either but May appointed him.

I've complained. The BBC may have intended to clearly label the focus of the story - I don't know - but that's not how it will be interpreted.

I also love a dystopian film, TV drama etc. but right now I could do without it, thanks. I also want something hopeful.

Actual computer scientist here. There's now plenty of data to support the idea that AI is dangerous when used as a 'companion' regardless of what you ask it to begin with.

BBC Four - The Secret Surrealist: Desmond Morris How noted zoologist Desmond Morris leads a double life as a painter of dreamlike images.

The BBC should make this documentary available. A lot of people don't know about Desmond Morris' art.

I did, but to me BoJo and Liz Truss were/are assholes as is Deform and all who stand for them. Starmer isn't in that league.

I don't disagree with your assessment of some if his decisions, it's the ad hominem opinions I can't accept.

You're wrong.

I'm sorry, but much as I don't have any confidence in the Labour party any more, Starmer is neither of these things. Just because he doesn't have the entitled arrogance of the likes of BoJo et. al. doesn't make him stupid.

Boris Johnson didn't pass vetting when Theresa May appointed him Foreign Secretary.

The media must have missed that one.
