Tonight, I had a wonderful reading @2ndflightbooks.bsky.social w/ @johnmilas.bsky.social. Great questions asked, had great food w/ John & a long time fan gifted me a copy Grasshands he turned into a hardback! (I almost cried.) Making the hike to local bookstores to support PEERLESS has been great.

One of the most fun things about the holidays is when people find a book that's been sitting lonely on the shelf for months and it's the perfect gift for someone. We love to see a book find its perfect person.
It seems like this should be common knowledge, but don't expect a bookstore to have a book in stock at Xmas time just because you saw it MONTHS ago in the shop. Like, inventory is fluid. Things sells. Sometimes we don't reorder them. 🤷♀️
I don't know if this is normal for conventions, but I have seen this be the case for a lot of art/farmers markets.

We are still on Facebook because some of our customers still are, but the things it shows me on the feed when I am signed in are wildly transphobic and misogynistic or AI engagement baiting. And we're a progressive bookshop. Can't imagine what it's showing to other people as the default 😬🤢
People tend to romanticize dusty bookshops filled almost entirely with old books, and yes, it's still a room full of books, but every time I go to one like that I am thinking about who is missing in all those pages. All the women and BIPOC folks and queer people. I want to hear those voices.
