Relatable?
One of our Funbles' history experts came across this anonymous poem, recorded c.1300s, that seems to be a rallying cry for Fools & Foolish people to indulge in foolish activities on April Fools' Day. What Foollery are you up to today?! 🐌🎈
an image of Medieval provenance of a jester figure with an orange pointy-eared hat holding an ominously curving jester's bauble, looking up towards a flower behind which a Funbles' balloon can be seen poking out. Obscure text reads "a fool".
an erratically formatted infographic: Saint April was made as the patron saint 'for the humourous and the radius' by the Holy Father Pope Boneyface II of Ostrogoth. The appointment of Sait April was a rare case which 'crossed party lines', as the antipope* of the time - Pope Boneyface II the Ostrogoth (530-532) actually made friends with his nemesis antipope Dioscorus and they agreed to make Saint April the April Saint in April 431! Saint April lived at an unknown time in an undisclosed location, but was often spotted in the early 400s AD (after Chris) in the region of Bithynia, near modern-day Latvia. *antipopes are bishops who appoint themselves as rivals to the pope (see the Wikipedia page on 'antipapas') An arrow pointing towards the foolish image.
Who was St April of Fools?! Luckily this olde obscure infographic has some inconsequential factoids, most notably including this image which contains a Funbles-esque balloon poking out from behind a plant...
Medieval marginalia-esque drawing of a weird medieval guy, who is a face sticking out from a large orange snail shell. They have a yellow jester's hood with pointed ears and a swirly top. Their teeth are gritted, holding the tail of an orange Funbles' balloon. The shell is perched on a green stem, with some purple star flowers blooming behind them.
Who's this weird lil guy? 🐌🎈 They must be coming out to prepare for Fools' Day next week! Are we all excited??!

Image description: Line drawing of a map, in the style of something found in 1970s academic journals. A collection of rocks, each numbered from a1 - a15, are arranged in a rough circle, with a four coming off in a line from the top. The rocks are located within a roundish earthwork mound. There's a small box, labelled b, a little to the right of the circle. The map is outlined with a dotted line, with 3.7 along the right and 24.76 along a top section. A striped indicator of scale from 0 - 10 is at the bottom. The image is labelled in handwriting, "SITE OF PRESENT DAY STRUCTURE". Text: "Excerpt from contemporaneous records for dig behind a current day drama school in Hull. Diagram shows a hengiform structure with related hoard. Nature of hoard and hengiform classification of stone circle both questioned. Hoard was shallow burial (approx 3’6”) of wooden box (dimensions unclear), containing traces of natural rubber and remains of plied cotton cording. Likely a ceremonial object. Carbon dating of wood in box structure places piece at approx 1500 BCE." is underneath the map, in a typewritten font
