I’ve read the first two books and those references are still there in the second. I also like the story but the WoT references did take me out of the story a bit.

It reminds me of the witch from the tv show Emerald City from a few years ago. One of the witches had blackened fingers from using some substance to get high and do spells. Is our Moggy a stoner???
