The profit margin of grocery stores is between 1% and 5% - far from the 30-40% imaginary savings. I just wish that the NDP would present realistic policies.

Another way to look at it: 300M$ per year works out to $8 per person per year ... not exactly 30 to 40% of the cost of groceries.
Total number of Canadians: 41.5 M
Average monthly cost of groceries for 1 person: $350
Total grocery expenditures: $174,300M
30% of above: $52,290M ... about 175 times more than the number mentioned by Avi Lewis.
Aren't you getting confused between Naomi Klein (Canadian, wife of Avi Lewis) and Naomi Wolf (American, anti-vax conspiracist)? Klein even wrote a book (Doppleganger) about this confusion theconversation.com/in-doppelgan...
I would love for CBC/Radio-Canada to be ad-free, with the message that the government is no longer competing for advertising dollars from private broadcasters.
Perhaps it depends on where one lives, and where the potatoes are sourced from. Here in Nova Scotia, Canada, I find the Lay's very good ... They're likely sourced from P.E.I. which is known for the quality of its potatoes.
@mark-carney.bsky.social Why is your/our government still posting on X?
Je me souviens.
While this motto, within Canada, is obviously and rightly associated with Québec, it describes Canada as a whole.
Le mieux est l'ennemi du bien -- Perfect is the enemy of the good.
We shouldn't need to strive for perfection. Increasing as much as reasonably feasible our production in Canada should be our first goal.
Thanks for the heads up; I blocked him too.
Sorry, I didn't know that the CBC wrote this. As for who is following me, I had a whole bunch who did when I joined a few lists early on but, as I post very rarely, I essentially don't see questionable reactions usually.
Why would tariffs added or removed in the US affect the price of coffee here in Canada?
??
This is about Nova Scotia: not everything is about Ontario.
Web page loading will not slow down because of an increase in AI-generated slop: fetching a webpage is something initiated by a user ("pull") and not something generated by a website ("push"). However, it will become more difficult to find and retrieve trustworthy content.
Let each of these states first implement health-care for all their citizens as a sign that they would fit within Canada!
A silver van for a 'pest management' company. Inside a ginger and white cat sits patiently.

PP, who can't get his security clearance, is afraid that someone will leak some damaging information about him and is preemptively attacking the RCMP.
This is what the Internet was meant to be.
I hope the CPC will vote to get Poilievre out of the way!
This article refers to a *provincial* policy, with the Nova Scotia NDP making a statement. It has nothing to do with the last federal election. In Nova Scotia, the provincial Liberals are definitely not working with the conservative party.
Senator Simons, assuming you agree with the idea, is there anything you could do to ban Fox News in Canada?
Fox News should be banned in Canada for promoting hatred and encouraging violence.

The fact that Parliament is prologued is irrelevant: Parliament never votes on individual purchases.
Canada's """Fentanyl Czar""" should just be Rick Mercer going on CBC and talking a mile a minute at the camera about the drug war. Send US news the tape and do not clarify anything.
Try not to be so tense, Dennis.

I would see an addition of an additional OUTGOING only lane to the BiHi being possibly a good thing. As is mentioned in the article, induced traffic is not something that is desirable.
It's not the kind of book I would read (not as relevant here in Canada) but I encourage you to continue mentioning it. Writing and publishing a well researched book is a huge accomplishment and you should be proud of it.
Bonehead decision by the conservatives. We're somewhat lucky though as they are nowhere near as bad as conservatives from other provinces.
