This is an executive order that lays the groundwork for sending homeless people and people with mental illness to concentration camps to be "civilly committed." It was never going to stop with immigrants.
This is horrifying beyond words.

It's difficult for people with untreated substance use disorders to stay in shelters because addiction doesn't allow you to "stop on a dime,” says Dr. Margot Kushel.
“It looks like they’re refusing shelter", when, in fact, “they’re telling you ‘that doesn’t meet my needs.’”

The entire National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) team at SAMHSA was terminated today.
Do not listen to the platitudes of this administration when they say they care about drug overdose, addiction, mental health, or suicide.
The US leads wealthy nations in maternal mortality. Homicide is a leading cause of death for pregnant ppl. The NIH just defunded key research on the nexus of domestic violence/maternal mortality
Really want to emphasize the person responsible for this—RFK Jr—is an alleged sexual assailant
Absolutely GUTTED for the PhD students getting their F31’s cut. This is ILLEGAL. We are standing with you ❤️
This is beyond sad. I was a NIDA summer intern in 2012 with many other brilliant students, and it started my career path as a health services researcher. It is a great program that provided housing for the summer, a stipend, and allowed me to gain invaluable experience.
Happy International Day of Women in Science. The National Science Foundation’s list of flagged words includes both “Women” and “Female.”
Screenshot of a Drug and Alcohol Dependence Journal article titled "The prevalence of fentanyl in New York City's unregulated drug supply as measured through drug checking offered at syringe service programs." Authors include OG drug checking tech Yarelix Estrada as first author, Jeffrey Sauer, Leonardo Dominguez, Izza Zaidi, Andrew J. Trinidad, Hannah Helmy, and Alex Harocopos
There's a lot of overwhelming, bad things out there right now
But this work deserves to be celebrated.
Check out the rad #harmreduction work done by NYC drug checking

This is part of an ominous trend. Studies like the YRBS help us understand health issues, guide our ability to respond to them—& are essential to our nation’s health & safety. Ignorance is not bliss, but dangerous. Government censorship of the truth is…well, you know.
Why should the public care about the freeze on the NIH? Aside from the need for scientific pursuits to make our society better…
-For every dollar we invest in NIH research, there is a $2.5 return.
-Research dollars help fund universities that employ non-academics. (1/)
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.
