On my dog walk I often chat with right wingers. I pretend I am an ex-Reform voter put off by the utter fuck up of our county council. Then they see me as one of their own, don't get defensive and shouty, and start to question their own opinion of Reform. Honey, not vinegar.

As a Dodgers fan, I literally feel like Sarah Connor at the end of the first Terminator. That’s how good the Blue Jays were.

Like we won but I’m so traumatized I’m going to lose custody of my son because I trained him to shoot weapons in Nicaragua and I’ll end up in a max cell at Pescadero

Congratulations to the Toronto Blue Jays on a magnificent season. It is a shame either team had to lose. And this was a gut punch. 💔💔

Classy players, fanbase, and truly one of the finest cities in the world.

Future is bright with Yeasavage, Barger, and Vladdy.

Now go re-sign Bo.

RIP Adam Greenberg
He was the superb cinematographer who shot Near Dark (watch it!), Terminator 2: Judgment Day and, of course, The Terminator, which means he’s responsible for one of my favourite shots in cinema that also coined a new genre for its film:

Newsom: "This is a historically unpopular president. His policies are even more unpopular than him. In every core category he's underwater. He who promised to make us healthier & wealthier & we're poorer and sicker ... He knows he's lose midterms so he's trying to rig it before 1 vote is cast"

The Alien Invaders Just Want to Chat “Bugonia” is surprisingly subdued for a movie about a conspiracy theorist’s quest to save Earth.

The premise of “Bugonia” sounds like a sci-fi thriller, but the film is much more interested in the human condition—and in having very long conversations about it, Shirley Li writes:

I think you can tell when you're a teacher when you're assessing the materials rather than content. 😜 I thought the true or false, summary, reading comprehension questions and writing was a balanced way of assessing whether the student understood the passage. Just wished the content was different.

I grew up with the idea that ABBA was “bad” (not my parents’ fault, just one of those stupid cultural misunderstandings) and then my middle school friend-turned-college roommate made me listen to ABBA GOLD and I said, “wait, what the fuck, this is amazing”

@mizpenn.bsky.social I should have been more specific with the #BetterLateThanSingle response #Spoilers 🛑🛑
I found a lot of the contestants relatable. I felt bad one starved herself to be pretty, which is sadly relatable for first 'loves'. I was surprised at who ended up together and not so they💔

I also read #BetterLateThanSingle #Spoilers 🛑🛑 that JeongMok broke up in August. So it seems like depending on when the show was shot they lasted a while. Maybe close to a year which isn't bad for a first relationship.

I really liked #BetterLateThanSingle . I'm currently watching #19Turning20 and they also have the concept of Forever Alone/Eternally Single.

I think what surprises me in both shows is how someone can get to the age of 19+ and never had a crush. I can see never on a date, but crush is odd.

The story behind the spy stories: show reveals secrets of John le Carré’s craft How author researched his plots and letters from Alec Guinness feature in Oxford exhibition Lamplighters, pavement artists, babysitters – they have taken on whole new meanings thanks to John le Carré. As his fans will know, they are part of tradecraft practised by the spies he wrote about so evocatively. Now, almost five years after his death, an exhibition, with the title Tradecraft, reveals the techniques and motivations of the characters’ real creator, David Cornwell. As you enter the exhibition in Oxford University’s Bodleian library you are greeted with a large portrait of Cornwell, wearing a black bucket cap, looking straight ahead with piercing eyes, his chin resting on his gently clasped hands. Accompanying the photo are two of his quotes. “I am not a spy who writes novels, I am a writer who briefly worked in the secret world,” one says. The second, after questioning whom, if anyone, we can trust, continues: “What is loyalty – to ourselves, to whom, to what? Whom, if anyone, can we love? And what is the caring individual’s relationship to the institutions he services?” Continue reading...

I was happy that she drew the line as well. She had me worried when she starved herself for him so she could be pretty.
