I don't know but will be with friends who might know (this weekend)...

So true, and there are moments when people share personal stories - in person - that are even more shocking. This week there have been two regarding threats to lives for standing up for the law and nature's rights. "We give you x amount of hours to leave this area or you will be _______".... 😶

You're amazing! How great to have a friend who cherishes nature and is also a personal research assistant?! You're also an assist player; you spot these stories and pass them along!

#BirdsSeenIn2026, #Ecuador, #Manabi A lovely surprise punctuated the final half hour of birding at my friends' shrimp ponds - a Fork-tailed Flycatcher! Other beauties were the Striated Heron and White-cheeked Pintail

Great 'top of the list'!
Seeing a classic 'Southern' scene with a front porch w/swing makes me nostalgic. The Mississippi River. Cypress trees. 🌷Spring flowers - from Dogwoods to Dutch Iris-Bearded Iris to the brief Wisteria bloom to the Magnolia grandiflora. Don't miss tornadoes or ice storms!

Moving can be bitter sweet - anticipating museums, public libraries, architecture, gardens, the four seasons - especially autumn and then springtime (wisteria!) - yet leaving behind dear friends and of course the flora and fauna. June will arrive fast, but you will squeeze the most from each day!

Nice way to mark the end of one trip around the sun, and start a new one. May this year be a good one for you and all of your loved ones.

Sent the survey link to friends via email, and they are replying back with👍thumbs up.

I'll bet lots of nature lovers here on bsky will do the same!

Yes, Alejandro projects a very strong voice, standing up against the illegal mining (all mining!) and deforestation.

Atractus Paucidens - Red-blotched Ground Snake.

Almost always this snake appeared beneath rotting logs in the cloud forest area where I lived. I can remember finding at least six! https://www.reptilesofecuador.com/atractus_paucidens.html

Thank you all for supporting Alejandro's work! Our paths crossed in 2016 when a docile 'new-to-me' snake captured my attention in the Mindo Ecuador area. He helped identify the Atractus paucidens.

I now live in Manabi province and was delighted to see my friend Stefany in that expedition!

Looking closer I think this is the White-tailed Kite... The second image is from last year, photo taken about two kilometers down that same road and wetland area..

Mystery bird (circled in blue) perhaps a White-tailed Kite? (Seems strange to be on the ground.)

Also: an 'undescribed' Turkey Vulture 'Choco' ebird.org/species/turv...
Other birds: White Ibis, Western Cattle Egret, Snowy E, Little Blue Heron,Tri-colored Heron

A domestic Muscovy Duck showed up for a rainy-day birding outing.
The Limpkin ignored me and ambled between the palm trees.
Three ancient combines kept the egrets and herons busy.
Nearby a rookery of Ibis, egrets and herons decorated a cluster of trees.

Best birds today: the handsome Cocoi Heron spearing a tilapia. Also, the migratory Sora (yay!)👍

Many migratory 'playeras' are MIA this year, so it was a relief to see two Lesser Yellowlegs! Also shown are the Cinnamon Teal and Black-necked Stilt.

Between and sometimes during rains today, more birds showed up for the #GBBC weekend.

Chivi Vireo, Ecuadorian Piculet, Giant Cowbird (near Shiny Cowbird), Gray-cheeked Parakeet (Brotogeris pyrrhoptera= yay!)

Fellow heron lover from Ecuador/here on Bsky; you might have missed that the #BirdsSeenIn2026 has weaned away from that 'other' platform. That Bald Eagle you posted is gorgeous!

The rains brought the MIA migratory Eastern Kingbirds, several months overdue!
Welcome back kingbirds!

The rains seemed to electrify the feathers of the Purple Gallinule.

A resident Yellow-rumped Cacique appeared - maybe it's considering nesting options.

Nature Always Vanishes at Night I’ve avoided writing about this for at least half a year now, mostly because the subject matter was so emotionally charged that I couldn’t find the guts to open it up.

YOW! A white oleander permeates the air with fragrance; in the Americas, the bottlebrush is a hummingbird-popular tree.

Just yesterday a friend wrote and told how her neighbor had butchered her trees for the same reason.

Thank you for attempts to find a true watercolorist, as so many talents are being replaced by 'shortcuts' via digital options. They are sometimes really special works, yet some of the digital works lack a soul. That perfect illustrator is out there - may your paths cross soon!

Thanks! 🦉 I'm trying to figure out how to nudge Ecuadorian birders to roost each evening here at Bsky and share their BirdsSeen.

Most people here use Tk/tk or Facebk, yet they could share species from the Sierra, Cloud forests and Amazon that are rarely represented here.
