Thanks for the links. Weāve been feeling a bit restless for change and looking for a clear way to act (and trapped at home in the other ice). My kids were all moved to chip in too from their earnings from being research participants. Sending good wishes

A chocolate cake with red and white decorations and lit candles shaped as the number 75. Bold text reads: āThe NSF Turns 75 Today. What has it done over the past 7 decades?ā The background is a celebratory red with a spray-paint texture.
HAPPY 75th, NSF!
Weāre celebrating this milestone by highlighting some of NSFās most transformative accomplishmentsāinnovations that have shaped our world and continue to drive progress in health, technology, the environment, and beyond.

NSF, NASA and NIH budgets per year, inflation adjusted from 2000-2025 along with the proposed cuts. NSF includes research component only. Massive cuts across all sectors, well below support spanning 25 years.
How bad will it be? Catastrophic.
Proposed cuts to #NSF, #NIH, and #NASA will set the US R&D landscape back 25 yrs+, cause economic and job loss now, and undermine innovations to come.
But, this is the WH's *proposed* budget.
Speak up now before it is too late.

A line graph depicting cumulative grant funding by the National Science Foundation from 1990 to 2025, with funding amounts on the vertical axis and timeline indicators on the horizontal axis. The graph highlights funding trends over the years, with a specific emphasis on Bidenās term and this year (which is the lowest).
Hereās how Trumpās war on science is going. NSF funding is at the lowest level in decades. Weāll lose knowledge, generations of scientists, and US competitiveness.

In the past month 4 trainees in my lab lost: NIH diversity supplement, MARC, & STEP-Up funding. NSF SBE meeting (incl. ECRs) indefinitely postponed. Pipeline cuts disproportionately affect underrepresented scholars. Individual lives & our collective future impacted. #ScienceMatters
Ok so yeah, this has quickly become the #1 misunderstanding about the canceled grants
the grants are not āsubsidiesā or āentitlementsā to Harvard or Princeton or whatever
they arenāt going into universitiesā endowments
they are competitive contracts won by these universities to do research
Senator Cory Booker on the economic value of the NIH and what we stand to lose with the Trump administration destroying scientific research
Just found out NIH has officially canceled our grant, a longitudinal study of Alzheimer's disease in Black Americans. I cannot even put into words how angry I am. The truth is they are canceling it because it has Black in the title. That's it, there is no other reason to do this.

not paying indirect costs for research is like only paying the players in the Super Bowl.
can't have a Super Bowl without coaches, referees, security, janitors, announcers, stadium staff, and a stadium - and you can't have research without supporting people and facilities
