When one mentions the dangers of disinformation, mostly we journalists shrug. Yet seven years ago, two separate groups of Uruguayan journalists got serious. It mattered.
In April 2019, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette hosted a public forum called "The War on Truth" to discuss the attacks on a free press and honor Jamal Khashoggi.
Welcome news for my highly talented former colleagues from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, including @stevemellon412.bsky.social @awimley.bsky.social
Powerful stories of resilience against press harassment globally. The journalists' stories who lived it from this year's Alfred Friendly Press Partners journalists in exile program. They Tried to Silence Us: Journalists in Exile Fighting for Freedom of the Press.
I'd say better than good. Multiple memorable photos. Thanks for posting @anitabaca.bsky.social @armandofranca.bsky.social
Today marks eight years since we launched the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker, a nonpartisan news website and database providing reliable and contextualized information on press freedom violations in the U.S.
See what we've tracked this year.

“Nearly seven hours passed before ICE officers entered the room, placing the 45-year-old woman, whom many residents in Kennett described as a soccer mom, in shackles at the wrists, waist and ankles.”

“Sebastião was more than one of the best photographers of our time,” Instituto Terra said in a statement. “His lens revealed the world and its contradictions; his life, (brought) the power of transformative action.” RIP to a photo and environmental legend.

“The press and all people in the United States have the right to choose their own words and not be retaliated against by the government,” the AP said in its lawsuit.
Count me in.
Four years on from the insurrection at the Capitol, and we've never stopped tracking justice for the 18 journalists assaulted in Washington D.C. on Jan. 6, 2021.
It's all kept here in our database ⬇️
Hugs to your princesa, @msantiagophotos.bsky.social
In memory of the great Michel du Cille, photojournalist and photo editor of the Miami Herald and Washington Post, who died 10 years ago today. His greatness was his talent but he brought more to the news industry by sharing his principled standards about journalism and photography. He's missed.
Finalmente!
Not sure how this works but i started a starter pack. 🤣 Link: go.bsky.app/BTyyJNV
June 28, 2018. “For a moment, though, working by his truck in a garage across from his destroyed newsroom, Pat symbolized the best of us and helped write the story that represented the best of American journalism.”
I played tennis for two years inside San Quentin prison with Kenny, now paroled and making positive contributions to society helping others. Beyond proud of his new life he worked hard to achieve. His first game at Chase Center, too.
Highly recommend!
