15% of fossil fuels extracted each year are used to make fertiliser, run farms, process foods and transport them. In a very real sense our food is made from oil and gas.
We are about to feel a very painful food shock.

Good to speak to Mark Allen, whose first round match begins very shortly
Also Jason Ferguson, who says the new Crucible is set to take a bit of inspiration from the old Irish Masters venue at Goffs
Might the tour return there? #snooker
Hoping for the best for Aaron Hill tomorrow in his judgement day qualifier for the World Championships

The Republic of Ireland head to Gdansk tomorrow without a point from their opening two games in this World Cup qualifying campaign

Planned investment on saving the Dublin-Wexford line in the next two decades? €230 million, or thereabouts: www.irishtimes.com/transport/20...
Planned additional subsidies to further reduce the cost of petrol this year alone? Over €750m: www.irishtimes.com/politics/202...
Passengers are reporting significant overcrowding on Rosslare-Dublin services ever since the increase in fuel prices. Rail is the solution, but we need increased capacity and investment on this line. We need to continue to facilitate people to make the switch from 🚘 to 🚆.
Galway, appearing in their seventh consecutive league final, face a Waterford outfit who are in their first ever Division 1A decider

And of course Antrim's Jordan Brown will still be in contention - playing tomorrow and Monday!
Just Aaron Hill survives to make it to judgement day
There he'll face none other than Dave Gilbert, the man who beat him at the same stage last season
It'll all be decided on Wednesday #snooker #Sheffield #WorldSnookerChampionship
Some very creative accounting was used to deem the Galway ring road compliant with Ireland's climate plans, writes architect and transport planner Ciarán Ferrie. jrnl.ie/7009217t
'... the role of state-backed foreign actors targeting Ireland, particularly in the digital age, remains under-explored'
Four Irish are now two wins away from the Crucible
Antrim duo Jordan Brown and Robbie McGuigan face Lei Peifan and Zhou Yuelong, respectively
Cork pair Aaron Hill and Leone Crowley could meet for a spot in the World Championships - they have to overcome Yao Pengcheng and Dave Gilbert #snooker
www.instagram.com/reel/DW9RI89... Marie Sherlock calling for relief saying some have crossed a line but "vast majority" are just normal people protesting
Very similar to Jen Whitmore's post here: www.instagram.com/reel/DW9Am4j...
There's one party who, as of yet, haven't gone down that road
The right to peaceful protest is a cornerstone of our democracy and should be protected.
That right is not contingent on the popularity of views expressed. Democratic governments must demonstrate a level of tolerance for peaceful protest even if it causes disruption.

As a culchie I just have to say, if Dubliners vote in politicians that will improve active travel and public transport then good for them. I’m jealous. Fellow culchies, we can actually do this too! Maybe we could all try this instead of reinforcing the urban-rural* divide.
*not real
Minister claims new Galway ring road won't induce demand for driving, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary
Galway council has previously said the ring road will increase emissions while the Department of Transport has said it increase traffic and congestion, rather than decreasing it
Minister: ring road will damage the environment but lead to congestion reduction
Department of Transport/Galway CoCo: ring road will lead to increased traffic and damage the environment
Is the #Galway ring road about to become the first new road to reduce the demand for driving?

End fossil fuel dependence 🌏
And we're on to day two, apparently
Blocking public transport because you want eveyone else to subsidise your cheap diesel is not a good look #Dublin
What is solution to today's hauliers protest in #Dublin?
Make diesel/petrol even cheaper, funded by the tax payer, or don't and pay more for goods - also funded by the tax payer?
I have my own views but can't make head nor tail of the wish of the protesters... could be called cynical opportunism

70,149 vacant homes are a "dead end" according to Eoin Burke-Kennedy
Why? Because, "a vacancy rate of between 2.5 per cent and 6 per cent is considered 'normal'..."
There are 17,308 homeless in Ireland, which excludes numerous categories - the market works, apparently

As Irish freshwater quality declines, An Taisce seeks review:
"Decisions like this are meant to be based on science, but evidence clearly shows Ireland has a serious water pollution problem that isn’t getting any better, caused largely by agricultural nitrogen."

Government must prioritise sustainable transport in any emergency relief funding
The solution to the rising cost of oil will never be tax reduction. It’s better cycling infrastructure, more frequent & reliable public transport and Work from Home measures
"No option but to serve notice on my tenants and dispose of my properties"
