Das Zahlenverhältnis zwischen Erwerbstätigen und Alten wird gerade schlechter, weil die Babyboomer in Rente gehen. Entweder kürzt man (weniger Rente, mehr Steuern, höheres Renteneintrittsalter) oder holt mehr Leute ins Land. Anteil der Einwanderer strebt dann langfristig gegen Eins. Kann man machen.
Rente konstant bei schrumpfender Bevölkerung, wie soll das gehen?
Ganz einfach: jede Rentenformel ist implizit eine Aussage über die dafür notwendige Einwanderung.
Rente bei 48% halten? Geht nur mit immer mehr Einwanderung. Ok, muss man halt wissen.

This lucid article needs no comment - except its over- emphasis on the infamous 1930 Smoot-Hawley tariff. Like most of the debate, it ignores the earlier 1922 Fordnam-McCumber tariff with avg rates already near 40%. Sm-Haw mostly just further widened the tariff tax base.

Aus genau diesem Grund habe ich vor etwas über einem Jahr gefordert, die Rentenversicherung in eine (sinnvoll umgestaltete) Schuldenbremse einzubeziehen. dann wären solche Tricksereien nicht mehr möglich.

As expected, VAT levied on imports to the EU, the UK etc is quoted by the US as a tariff barrier. While this is wrong, there's a simple cure & bargaining chip: stop refunding VAT on exports to the US. Roughly similar effects to a US tariff, except the revenue accrues to the exporter!

Seems the early reports were too optimistic and the planned tariffs do include a formula for local content. That's gonna make things very tricky. We'll see producers pooling powertrain mfg etc to make onshore production worthwhile. Bye bye to variety?
This would also enable EU car makers to shift final assembly to the US and continue to serve their home markets w/o being penalized or having to build up excess capacity.
One slightly counterintuitive but effective thing the EU and others could do is to impose export tariffs - eg repeal current VAT reimbursements on auto exports. This won't revive trade but it nicely redirects customs revenue from the importer to the exporter.
European car makers: build flashy final assembly plants in trendy U.S. locations, open to the public and run as theme parks. Allow customers to pick up their new cars there - fireworks, gadgets & confetti! A Bavarian car maker did that with US clients coming over, big success.
Everyone be a bit less hysterical about Trump's auto tariffs. If prelim info is correct, that's only for assembled cars. Won't disrupt supply chains except for final assembly. Also, don't forget that 🇪🇺 has a 10% tariff on US cars. Not v nice but it's not the end of the world.

Things will depend on whether 🇩🇪 politicians will floor the debt accelerator that was just created for them. If they do, Germany is in for fun, just as it was after unification boom fizzled out in the late 1990s. Puzzled why they put in no time limit and no cap.
Public borrowing is not a free lunch. Markets responded immediately to Germany priming the debt pump 👇🏼.
This makes Schacht's infamous Mefo scheme look almost conservative - who would have thought?
That said, the new scheme might be the best available solution. But financial risks are 'yuge'.

In the disastrous conditions at the trough of the great depression, Schacht had leverage. Govt had little other recourse to credit (they tried). He was eventually sidelined and the cap blown off but hey..
Now there is no limit to deficits for defence, only the sky is the limit.
