Since 2007, the Xingu Seed Network has collected more than 410 tonnes of seeds from over 220 native species, enabling the restoration of around 11,500 hectares of degraded land. Read how this systemic approach encapsulates the entire cycle of life in nature. www.regnskog.no/en/women-and...

Land grabbing, fires, and deforestation are surging ahead of plans to pave the middle section of the BR-319 highway in the Amazon. Threats to forest communities increase as the road cuts through protected forest and Indigenous lands. www.regnskog.no/en/long-read...
The rainforest rumbled its way into the climate talks, and the results are promising 🔥 Featuring the largest Indigenous delegation ever, this became a historic "Rainforest COP," securing both funding and political will. Let's celebrate these monumental steps forward for the rainforest 💚
Victory at COP30!
💚Brazil has formally recognised 4 new Indigenous territories. 16 more are in the pipeline.
👉The largest territory Kaxuyana-Tunayana covers 22.000 km2 of rainforest.
🫶We have worked with our Indigenous partner Iepé for 20 years for Kaxuyana-Tunayana

🌍 In 2024, the world lost 6.7M hectares of rainforest – 18 football pitches every minute. Investors are uniting to call for stronger policies to halt deforestation by 2030.

With this call to action, Brazil is placing rainforests and Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities at the absolute heart of the global climate conference this autumn. We wholeheartedly applaud this initiative, backed by governments, Indigenous Peoples' organizations and philanthropic institutions.
This is a moment of choice. Germany can either retreat or reaffirm its position as a global climate leader 🌏

Together with Indigenous leader Kleber Karipuna and Martina Schaub, Executive Director of Oro Verde, we call on Germany’s new government to recommit its support for Indigenous peoples as guardians of tropical forests ahead of COP30 in Brazil this year.

@vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu, WE💚FORESTS.
Show your commitment to the EUDR and help protect what we love! Within a decade, the EUDR could protect over 8 million hectares of forests worldwide from EU consumption — an area almost the size of Austria! #Together4Forests
Finally, some good news: Thanks to immense opposition from Indigenous Peoples in the Peruvian Amazon, no companies want to get involved in Petroperu’s attempts to establish oil production in the Achuar and Wampis Indigenous territories🌳
The EU's new benchmarking of countries according to deforestation risk was published yesterday. Unbelievably, many of the world's top deforesters are not seen as high risk. Why? The high-risk category is only informed by UN and EU sanctions, NOT evidence of deforestation. Read more here:

Last week, Rainforest Foundation Norway signed a statement on Omnibus alongside 362 organizations from 53 countries.
❌The statement accuses the EU Commission of deprioritizing human rights, workers’ rights, and environmental protections for the sake of dangerous deregulation.

Happy Women's Day!
We are proud to work with Indigenous women leaders like Patricia Suarez of OPIAC, who tirelessly work to create and defend spaces for Indigenous women to participate and shape the policies that define the future of Indigenous Peoples and tropical rainforests.
👎 EUs new Omnibus law is framed as a sensible simplification. In reality, the proposal hollows out existing regulations.
Cutting into the supply chain laws is not the solution for European competitiveness; it will instead simplify the destruction of nature.

#COP16 finally secured an agreement on finance last night, after failing to do so in Cali. "The decisions adopted today leave much to be desired, but will provide the basis for new efforts to fund the protection of #nature if acted upon immediately”. Find our immediate reactions here:
Government action to direct financial flows for biodiversity protection should be at the core of the COP 16-2 negotiations in Rome this week. RFNs International Advocacy Director is there to follow the negotiations and advocate for increased financing for biodiversity and rainforest protection.
A strong coalition of 40 NGOs calls for a more robust and transparent #benchmarking methodology under the European Union Regulation on Deforestation-Free Products #EUDR:
👉The benchmarking must reflect real-world risks associated with commodities such as timber, cattle, palm oil, soy, and leather.
#Deforestation and #humanrights violations don’t vanish if the EU doesn't recognize them as a threat. Decision-makers must recognize what is happening on the ground where products are sourced,” says Toerris Jaeger, Director of Rainforest Foundation Norway.

In November, fishermen from the Igarapé do Costa community noticed a fish die-off that took on frightening proportions. This tragedy was documented in the series “How Climate Change in the #Amazon impacts forest communities,” a collaboration between @folha.com and Rainforest Foundation Norway.
The study is carried out by researchers at University of Minas Gerais in Brazil and supported by Rainforest Foundation Norway.
New research: Deforestation alone causes 40% of local climate change and up to 20% revenue loss for farmers in Brazil.
But replanting brings the rain and the revenue back.
If truly understood by the agribusiness, it could save the #amazonrainforest from collapse.

The new Indonesian government plans to increase food production in Indonesia and is now working on defining and allocating crop areas. It is crucial that this is established on already degraded lands - to preserve Indonesia's valuable rainforest.
Norway supports Indonesia with 65 million USD for reduced deforestation.
"The reduced #deforestation in Indonesia is impressive. We expect Indonesia to use this support to continue the trajectory," said @andershauglarsen.bsky.social at Rainforest Foundation Norway.

Tractor in field on previous rainforest land.
Victory! The EU Council and Commission stood firm against attempts to weaken the #EUDR regulation in the trilogue negotiations. A significant victory for #forests, #biodiversity and #climate. Despite the one-year delay, this will ensure that only deforestation-free products enters the EU market.
