Credit where it’s due. The War on Drugs is a failed policy. Pearl clutching about decriminalizing drug *paraphernalia* is wild. As someone who supports decriminalizing all drugs, I gotta point out the hypocrisy of the far-right sympathizers being silent on Mayor Frey decriminalizing hallucinogens
Posts by Aisha Chughtai
There’s nothing about Council Member Chughtai’s work on Uptown Safety Ambassadors and construction hardship program that she authored (Mayor Frey has not implemented).
Nor her work on the Rise Up Center and other Uptown programs she authored. Any reason why only one council member was mentioned?
Mayor Frey can thank Minneapolis Public Housing Authority & affiliated nonprofit Community Housing Resources for 43 filings yesterday.
Significant bump in Mpls filings the past few days.
Approximate* Minneapolis eviction filings 3/1 thru 3/11:
2025: ~54
2026: ~237
A 339% increase compared to 2025.
Hear directly from Aliya Rahman, who was brutally pulled from her car and assaulted by ICE on her way to a doctor’s appointment, on the importance of extending the pre-eviction notice to 60 days. We are proud to have passed this policy today and are calling on Mayor Frey to sign it immediately.
I’ll believe it when I see it. Everything they’ve said about this illegal occupation has been built on a lies.
We need accountability for our neighbors and for this whole corrupt department to be dismantled.
Stay out there, keep your connection to one another, and only believe your eyes.
Yep! So proud to author this with CM Chavez :)
Another addition to the website to help us built *systems* and not just have me trying to do everything alone:
If you'd like to adopt a rent that you can either *cover immediately* and fundraise for, or just pay outright, please fill out this form and we will contact you via Signal.

Rest in peace Renee Good. Thank you for supporting our immigrant neighbors. You’ll always be our hero. 🕊️ 💜
I believe they took 1 person.
I’m on the scene at Franklin and 1st. A convoy of about a couple dozen ICE/HSI agents broke the entryway into an apartment building at 6am. No warrant presented. Less than 24 hours ago, Tom Homan announced the end of large convoys in Minnesota… Bullshit.
Abolish ICE.
There’s no reforming it.
There’s no compromise.
There’s only one way to rein in ICE’s terror campaign. Abolish it.
City council member here, it’s the treatment we are used to at this point. It’s unfortunate but that’s culture at the City of Minneapolis. When we want to get a press conference that’s city of mpls supported we have to fight for it, and jump through hoops. Just to name one thing.
Federal agents at powderhorn park
This morning, federal agents staged at the Powderhorn Park Recreation Center lot and began to throw chemical irritants at observers. They also kidnapped an observer. Our parks are meant for our children, youth, and neighbors. They should never be militarized zones meant to separate families. 1/
"We are under federal occupation right now by our own government."
Minneapolis Councilmember @aishaforward10.com told @deanobeidallah.bsky.social what it's like living in Minneapolis right now.

Following up on this now. Thank you for flagging.
ICE kidnapped a permanent resident in Minnesota today. They let the individual go after realizing they had authorization. Don’t be fooled, ICE is still discriminating against our neighbors based on the color of their skin. 1/
Fundraising text from Governor Tim Walz reads: “Hey, it’s Tim Walz. I just got off the air with Anderson Cooper live in Minneapolis. Here’s what I told him: 𝙄’𝙫𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙖 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙤𝙩𝙖𝙣. Donald Trump is trying to make an example out of Minnesota. His message? Sit down, shut up, and fall in line. But here’s the catch: If he’s trying to make an example out of us, I’m damn proud of the example we’re setting. We’re meeting fear and division with decency and generosity, and we’re not backing down. The Trump administration is picking legal battles with me in the hopes that I’ll stop defending you. 𝗜𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸. I will never give up on defending Minnesotans – but these legal fights are expensive by design. So if you have $10 or $20 to chip into my legal defense fund, it’ll go a long way: twalz.com/l/jFcQQd Thank you for all of your support. Whether you can donate or not, if” Remaining text continues on next screenshot.
Remaining fundraising message from Governor Tim Walz reads: “there’s one thing you take away from this message, let it be this: 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗼𝗸𝗲 𝘂𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴. Text STOP to quit”
@governorwalz.mn.gov, I’m thrilled to read via fundraising text that you’ll never stop defending Minnesotans. I agree: your constituents are meeting this moment.
We need you to defend us. Come Feb 1st, you can keep vulnerable families in their homes by enacting a statewide eviction moratorium NOW.
Local government is the first line of service and last line of defense for our communities. Your local officials are working to get you regular updates about what’s happening on the ground. Check out our briefing today about what’s happening in Whittier: www.youtube.com/live/aiC9-i1...
This neighbor really needs our help. In the absence of @governorwalz.mn.gov enacting an eviction moratorium, our only tool for keeping families in their homes safe from abductions is crowdfunding.
Screenshot of Guardian article. It reads: ‘Our spirit can’t be broken’: Minneapolis council member on resisting Trump’s immigration crackdown
Even in our grief, our community continues to follow in the example of Alex Pretti: loving our neighbors and doing everything we can to support them. No matter what, ICE will not break our spirit.

I’m furious that Mayor Frey chose to NOT SIGN a unanimous resolution from the City Council to urge Governor Walz to enact an eviction moratorium. Receipt: lims.minneapolismn.gov/Download/Met...
Please, I’m begging you, join me in calling on @governorwalz.mn.gov to enact an eviction moratorium now.
It’s a privilege to represent an ~80% renter community. The most vulnerable of my constituents, along with vulnerable renters across the Southside and Minneapolis, are at risk of losing their homes come the 1st when rent is due. We need @governorwalz.mn.gov to enact an eviction moratorium NOW.
Abolish ICE. Save democracy.

The people of Minneapolis are hurting, tired, and extremely angry — all these emotions are justified. Resistance to this ICE occupation is justified. I’ll continue to be right there with you, and will keep you updated.
I am using my office to ask local police to protect residents and not comply with ICE. I will do everything in my power to get ICE out of Minneapolis immediately and I know you will too. This invasion of our city by federal agents can not be sustained.
There is only one group of people here instigating violence and escalating the situation: the federal agents. They are the people whose behavior needs policing right now.
I take issue with any assertion that it is the people of my neighborhood, the people of this city, who are in any way responsible for the escalation we are seeing in the streets.
I also call on Governor Walz to institute an eviction moratorium for as long as our state is occupied, and put his focus towards protecting our communities — not deploying even more force against observers and protesters.
I’m calling on Governor Walz to immediately do everything in his power to arrest the individuals responsible for the murder that took place in my community.
It is past time for ICE to leave our state. As a Council Member I don’t have the authority to make the federal government leave, but I will continue to be with you in the streets until they are gone, and long after they leave.
