Academic Conference | game therapy uk Interested in research in role playing game RPG therapy? It's all here.

I'm heading down to this Game Therapy UK conference at the end of the week, hence not wanting an embarrassingly out-of-date version of my cool new game on my storefront! πŸ˜…

I do wish I found it easier to get work done in the morning, though. The ADHD means I usually only fully lock in once the evening arrives, so now I have to try and get to sleep with my brain buzzing with revisions and clarifications!

Put in a really good day's work on my Lynchian TTRPG Somewhere in the Dreams! This means I'm hopefully on track to release the updated rules text before I travel to London on Thursday.

"...on they came at a precipitous rate, stunted jaundiced horrors cyclopean and half-clothed, dull mouths agape, crying "pip, pip" and "hello buddies" in their grotesque subhuman voices. I crouched in my hiding place. "Poopay," they gibbered. "POOPAY!" - H.P. Lovecraft, "The Banana on the Threshold"

Limestone Quarry, Knaresborough From 'Folkish' by Kym Deyn

It's not my fault the rocks are insane, I'm just announcing stone-intent. If you were two-hundred-million years old and each century was worth less than a grain of sand if you had been mud and coral in Pangea and saw extinctions and then in the great yawn of tectonic plates became a little spit of something that one day would be England, if humans were the latest news, a misplaced handaxe your first trinket, if you watched Romans introduce gods and rabbits, if you saw Christ carried in a book, if you were a sprawl of caves, a castle, a cliff, a series of shrines, generations of homes, if you wore a vast forest as a cloak, if you buried a prophet, dug up a saint, if you kissed the last boar goodbye, if you became black with soot, if the forest was shorn to a sliver, if the river washed you to sand, if the day and night were a spinning top and your voice was the great echo of grit, if there was no moving through your history but the history was you over and over and over again, wouldn't you be a mudslide, a haunt, a great unspoken secret.

Kym's debut collection is just incredible. I commend it to you so utterly. Buy a copy now. Trust me. Trust me. ninearchespress.com/publications...

It is a truth universally acknowledged that whenever I release the first edition/jam entry/playtest version of a new TTRPG I will choose two fonts that are "good enough for now, at least," and that I will later come to hate one of them and yet be unable to find a replacement that I don't also hate.

My GMing style?

How GMless can I make this game before my players notice and ask if I could actually not offload quite so much responsibility onto them?

You gotta be watching a movie obviously. Pick the worst one you can think of. Roll off, single lowest roll starts as a demon, they will ruin the movie cracking bad jokes the whole time. If you laugh at one you become a demon too. Continue until everyone is a demon or the movie ends with survivors.

As a pre-teen author undergoing the incorrect puberty, my own
ZZT games circled the same themes again and again, at first with a
layer of distancing irony that slowly eroded like the mountain
being pecked away by that bird in Hell: they were fetish games.
They revolved around captured princesses, with bare feet and torn
dresses, chained in ASCII dungeons, punished and degraded,
threatened with torture and hardship and peril. These were, in
essence, all manifestations of the submissive woman, the painslut
and pillow princess I would eventually become, but could not yet admit to wanting to be, could not yet admit that such a thing could be wanted.

everyone is currently obsessed with *checks notes* a 1997 game called Moon Child. but did you know other weird games came out in the 90s? you can read about some of them in my new 24-page zine, Shareware Made Me Trans, coming to itch next week!
