Every 3D print in NY can be surveilled — from political speech to company prototypes — if these provisions make it into the state budget. We need to act NOW to stop it. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...

After almost twenty years on the platform, EFF is logging off of X.
This isn’t a decision we made lightly, but it might be overdue. 🧵 (1/5)

Amazon RDS Blue/Green Deployments now supports Amazon RDS Proxy
AWS just announced their Blue/Green thing now works with their Proxy thing to make their Database thing switch faster. Because nothing says "simple cloud" like needing three separate services just to update a database without downtime.

4-panel comic. (1) [Two people standing next to house with solar panels on roof. Person 2 has a black hat.] PERSON 1: Wait, you got solar panels? I thought you were against renewables. (2) PERSON 2: Oh, definitely. I hate the environment and want to harm it as much as possible. I’d *love* to have an oil furnace. (3) PERSON 2: But the technology just isn’t there and the cost is too high. I despise solar, but it makes more financial sense in my situation. (4) PERSON 2: But with the money I’m saving, I can buy and burn industrial waste in my yard to try to make up for it. PERSON 1: Ah, yeah, carbon onsets.

3D Print-blocking laws hand monopolistic power to manufacturers and can criminalize open source alternatives. We need to reject these onerous restraints on creation. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...
Banning 3D parts based on their function is a doomed game of cat and mouse. Algorithmic print blocking will be circumvented by lawbreakers, and legal uses will be censored. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...
As a research project, I built a needed tool with Claude Code. I though it would be a disaster, but It wasn't. I have some complicated feelings about it.
I completely agree. I'm the elder developer at work and I feel like I'm being viewed as the "old man yelling at clouds" for not swallowing the AI Kool-Aid whole cloth.
This is one of my greatest fears. I always thought that I would enjoy writing code and would do it until my brain stopped working. However, I now see a future where this is no longer the case and I'll have to find a new love. This makes me very sad.
I recently did some slight changes to some Rails code using Claude and it left me feeling the same way. I love coding because I love writing code. I don't want to be a manager, of people or "agents".
I find it ... interesting that a lot of discussion around AI usage devolves to which model was used. This feels like the bad old days of JS frameworks.
"Why would you use Angular; everyone is using Backbone.js"
"React is much too large, Htmx does everything you need."
“I am political,” Ms. Rachel told me of her new effort to free kids from ICE detention.
“It’s political to believe that children are worthy of love … and that our care shouldn’t stop at what we look like, our family, at our religion, at a border. Mr. Rogers was very political.”
Gov. Andy Beshear joined local officials and leaders from Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky to celebrate 40 years in the commonwealth by announcing an $800 million investment to prepare the plant for its second battery electric vehicle.

Comic. [Person 1 talking to person with bun whose hands are fisted and has steam above her head and a person with a white hat who is facepalming.] PERSON 1: I was able to produce artificial gravity by rotating the ship along its longitudinal axis, helping passengers maintain muscle mass on the long-duration voyage! [caption] Well, the cruise line fired me.

A good friend of mine died 1 year ago today. He was a great computer programmer (much better than me) and loved birds and bird watching.
FUCK CANCER!
If you gave me two choices.
1. Pay for my own ticket, fly to your city, Uber to your house, stand in your bathroom and talk business while you’re on the toilet taking a dump, or…
2. Meet with you on Microsoft Teams
I’d just need ask your address
Today, Michelle and I are proud to announce that we will be hosting the dedication ceremony for the Obama Presidential Center on June 18th in Chicago, and welcoming the public on June 19th.
We can’t wait for you to visit. Go to obama.org to learn more.
Kentuckians across the state agree: Pre-K for All needs to be funded for our kids, our families and our businesses. That was made clear in Ashland and Fort Mitchell, where local officials, parents and business leaders all called on the General Assembly to take action and fund pre-K.
And these are not huge, grandiose projects. I'm just trying to create simple tools to help me with my daily programming life.
I've had almost nothing but failure when I try to use "AI" to create software for me. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but every solution that I generate either doesn't work or is full of bugs, or both. Maybe I'm holding it wrong. 🤷
Republicans are using kids as a smokescreen for what Big Tech lobbyists want: a national surveillance program to harvest our data with zero protections for people and their privacy.
We must fight this dangerous expansion of surveillance technology.
“War may sometimes be a necessary evil. But no matter how necessary, it is always an evil, never a good. We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other’s children.”
— President Jimmy Carter, Nobel Peace Prize Lecture, December 10, 2002
I’m on the beta update track and my macOS 26 laptop has not updated yet. Is there a bug with upgrading to the latest release?
ALPRs are “incredibly ripe for abuse,” EFF’s @mguariglia.bsky.social told @SFstandard.com. “No matter how many legal or bureaucratic guardrails you put on those searches, officers are going to find a way to use it for their own personal reasons.” sfstandard.com/2026/02/27/...
Also, the showroom locations look pretty sketchy, at least on Google Maps. One of them seemed to be a used car lot or something. Not very confidence inspiring.
Agreed. Plus, it's difficult to get a demo ride close to me. The closest showroom is 3 hours away, which is a long way to go for a test drive.
