This week I’m sitting with how our access policies for courses are both very open (good!) and don’t stop students from making bad choices for their wellness (bad!). davidknuffke.medium.com/access-isnt-...
Consider prior mayors and wonder what kept them from doing these things? The answers are essentially all “lack of interest, will and imagination”
This is how you lose the class war. Billionaires shouldn’t exist and Billionaireism is a pathology.
Genuinely glad I never went down the Substack route.
The operating heuristic for the current moment is that things will always be the stupidest version of what they can be. This has yet to be shown to be a suboptimal organizing principle.
It’s nice to see America do something competently for a change. That it comes from the most scientific area of our government is poignant, given how eagerly the trump regime has sought to hollow out that aspect of things.
If Swallwell walks his talk he’ll sit out his current gubernatorial race while an investigation proceeds. If not, well…that tracks.
Narrator: It is the easiest decision you could make and it is well overdue. 🙄
Why is anyone supporting the Likud regime and its fundamentalist coalition at this point? They should be a global pariah akin to any other lawless regime.
They bring shame to Jews throughout the world by claiming to commit their crimes in our collective name.
This week’s piece is a quick rumination on some recent projects and what they suggest to me in terms of where skills (technical and ethical) are needed: davidknuffke.medium.com/two-things-i...
Absolutely deranged social media post by donald trump threatening war crimes.
Anyone who abets these war crimes is complicit and should be held accountable. This might be the most shameful thing ever said by a president.
Things have gotten worse. Which is remarkable as they were already super bad.
This is absolutely correct. I doubt kids mind using LLMs asynchronously for independent study type things, but so much of school is done in community with others, and LLMs ain’t that.
Watching “The Pitt” from Singapore shows how remarkably aberrant US Healthcare is. Absolutely wild how broken the social safety net is. But hey, at least we’re spending hundreds of billions on elective wars.
A colleague asked if we could move the AP Exam practice aspects of our science practice site into something more broadly useful for our students. About an hour of effort later, here’s a public repo for this evolving project. Free to fork, follow and use: github.com/mrknuffke/ap...
I really do like the show very much. Particularly the pattern of going absolutely sideways at the end of each season.
Post from Mark Joseph Stern FYI: I am going to stop summarizing Supreme Court decisions on here as they come down. One comment has been plucked out of context of all my reporting, misread, and used as the basis of a mean-spirited pile-on. I am not going to subject myself to this. If this was your goal, then congratulations.
I’m not sure short form, public forum, text can be used to have a useful, or intelligent conversation about anything, friends.
Nuclear power plants do not and can not explode like nuclear weapons.
I like “Paradise” very much, but there is something deeply obnoxious to my scientific literacy in the last episode of season 2 (that I won’t spoil). It’s fine. The show is a good time, regardless.
This is an insane thing to say and it would void my ability to listen to anything this person said about teaching ever again.
Quite violent.
How about “Primal”? It’s intense but I’ve enjoyed it.
I do not believe that the Likud regime and what it has done to Israel are reflective of me or my Jewishness. And I am also deeply ashamed that we, as humans, tolerate the horrors they gleefully commit.
It’s good. Did you ever watch “Scavengers Reign?”
You can definitely get into some twitter-ish back and forth here. People still have their sacred cows. It doesn’t happen often, but it can happen.
