Nothing to worry about, just the Heritage Foundation publishing an article on how the Republican Congress can refuse to seat Democrats www.heritage.org/election-int...

As both the former chief mathematician of the Senate Budget Committee and more importantly as a proud graduate of elementary school, this is,,,, not how it works
Hegseth discarded the flu vaccine mandate for military personnel b/c, he said, “your body, your faith, and your convictions are not negotiable.”
But he’s tightened grooming and appearance rules in ways that discriminate against Black, Muslim & Sikh personnel.

Kevin Warsh just lost me. He argues he's going to be an independent Fed Chair, but refuses to acknowledge that Trump lost the 2020 election. If you can't state simple facts when you're in the political spotlight, you aren't independent. You're a coward.
Nothing has killed more soldiers in the history of humanity than disease. While worst is a more complicated question Hegseth is absolutely the dumbest secretary of defense the United States has ever had. bsky.app/profile/ones...
"To paraphrase Don Rumsfeld, you have to go to impeachment with the vice president you have, not the vice president you might wish to have."
Why weren’t thoughts and prayers adequate to deal with Iran?
And why stop at universities? Let's have viewpoint diversity in law enforcement! Let's have it in the officer corps of the military! Let's have it in corporate boardrooms!
A good thread, ending (truthfully), “However low your opinion of the Roberts Court, it should be lower.”
We need to do something about the well-known conservative bias in our police forces. As long as we’re requiring ideological balance in the professions.
Donald Trump is barking mad.
A lot of Orbán's American fans are saying that this election proved he was never an authoritarian in the first place.
This is completely wrong — and, in fact, betrays a complete misunderstanding of both Hungarian politics and modern authoritarianism.
Here's why.
U.S. Southern Command @Southcom Applying total systemic friction on the cartels. On April 11, at the direction of #SOUTHCOM commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan, Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted two lethal kinetic strikes on two vessels operated by Designated Terrorist Organizations. Intelligence confirmed the vessels were transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and were engaged in narco-trafficking operations. Two male narco-terrorists were killed, and one narco-terrorist survived the first strike. Three male narco-terrorists were killed during the second strike. Following the engagements, USSOUTHCOM immediately notified U.S. Coast Guard to activate the Search and Rescue system for the survivor. No U.S. military forces were harmed. @DeptofWar #OpSouthernSpear
169 people extrajudicially executed in 46 strikes.
Stay disgusted.
Viktor Orbán created the global blueprint for authoritarian populism and became a MAGA hero. Today, Hungarian voters sent him packing after 16 years in power.
There is nothing inevitable about these guys. Organize. Vote. Fight back. It works.
Hard to overstate how important this is for Poland after last year's election result. If PiS get back in, they'll no longer be able to count on a mutual protection pact with Hungary against Article 7 proceedings. This will not turn them into ardent liberal democrats, but will focus the mind.
Again, the authoritarianism extremism of the American Republican Party far exceeds that of...Viktor Orban & Fidesz, who just immediately conceded an election without any of the shenanigans, coups, nonstop lies about nonexistent voter fraud, or endless litigation of the GOP after every US election.
People will be closely studying how Hungary's opposition pulled off their win in such a pro-incumbent system. Important to note that the theme was corruption. Democrats need to get much better at calling out Trump's corruption.
It's not just that Orbán losing inspires hope in other competitive-autocratic countries ruled by right-wing nationalist authoritarians. It's that his loss materially changes things in those other countries, because he's been operating as a headquarters and funding source...
Going to be the same here.
Hungary: At 21.54% of the votes counted, TISZA approaches the 133-seat super majority it needs to amend the Constitution and get rid of the Orban mafia regime that controls the government.
At 14.72%, TISZA had 125 projected seats.
Gain of +3 to 128 in the latest update.
Hungary: You can follow the live vote-count here.
Magyar needs a super majority of 133 seats in the 199-seat parliament to be able to affect any kind of change and remove Orban's control over the government - filled with his sycophants.

We’ve gone from “I don’t care if they reopen the Strait” to “we’ll destroy your civilization if you don’t reopen the strait” to “well if THEY don’t reopen the strait then WE are going to blockade it ourselves.”
What an extraordinarily embarrassing moment for this country.
Looking at YOU Alaska Senator Murkowski.
Good points. Especially the last. “Instant runoff” would be better name than “RCV” because it gets at the purpose, rather than the technique to achieve it. Also, probably less intimidating to voters.
💯
The chances are very good that Orbán will lose the election this weekend. But even IF Peter Magyar becomes PM, we shouldn’t expect too much from him.
This op-Ed is mostly the work of my brilliant grad student @gabrielagreilinger.com who is the real Hungary specialist. 👏
One of the favorite tactics of the Nazis was to ascribe crimes committed by an individual to a group. While the crimes may, in some instances, have been real, that did not make the group guilty of them.
