Made a little #GodotEngine plugin that removes the OS title bar and replaces it with a built-in one which gives the editor very slightly more space.
it's probably incredibly janky but it's the thought that counts

true highlight of the release: when connecting functions to signals, autocompletion will no longer add parentheses

kind of, the value is stored in the a vertex attribute and then the shader interpolates what's in between, here's a 32x32 grid for example

you have to store the attribute in a domain (vertex, edge, face, face corner, etc), so here i'm basically just storing the noise as a vertex color on a dense plane
it's not practical for something like noise im showing here but closures are currently geometry nodes only

something I came up with after reading the part of the blog about closures:
a simple fbm node group where you can just plug in any type of noise through a closure

Viewport: Snap 3d cursor rotation to active This PR adds the ability of snapping(aligning) the rotation of the 3d cursor to the active element. we can choose snap mode: location only, rotation only, location and rotation. It also takes care of skewed cases; in skewed cases it keeps an important axis and makes the others accordingly. For t…

really looking forward to this particular PR

it also works on other object types like armatures, grease pencil, etc.

want a cool blender tip? #b3d

you can quickly switch between different objects in edit/sculpt/paint modes by hovering over them and pressing Alt+Q

bonus tip: numpad 8/4/2/6 also vary based on what modifier keys you press.
- by default they orbit the center of your view
- holding down ctrl make them pan the camera
- and holding down shift makes them roll it (useful to orient yourself after using align view to active)

same shortcut in edit mode and pose mode for example.

want a cool blender trick? #b3d

everyone knows about numpad keys and orthographic views, but not everyone knows about "align view to active" (shift+numpad keys), which goes into orthographic view while perfectly aligned to your current selection. Works in most modes!

Want a cool looking anamorphic glare but are unsatisfied with the default streaks result? Try slightly blurring the result or using bloom as the input for streaks (or both).

High distance, low strength.

High distance, low strength.

Low distance, default strength.

Low distance, default strength.

want a cool blender tip? #b3d

when using the bump node, DO. NOT. USE. STRENGTH.
Strength acts more like "opacity" of the generated normals, while Distance flattens them, which gives the correct effect.

The difference seems subtle but it's very easy to spot on others' work when you know about it.

press alt + middle mouse button to center your view on what your mouse cursor is currently hovering over.
this should genuinely be one of the first things taught to new blender users i'm shocked by how many people dont know about this

That alone is definitely one of my top awaited features, I don't have the disk space to download entire asset libraries, so the ability to connect to libraries like Polyhaven to browse for materials or HDRIs right in Blender is a dream.

Do you have an estimate when development on the new animation layers will start? Or is it just whenever what's currently being worked on is done?

hi gaster how is bluesky

i remember back in 2.7 when fly navigation was Shift+F, though lately I've been feeling like it should work like it does in most game engines, where you hold down right mouse to use it.

anyway have something from me, shift+numpad 1/3/7 (align view to active)

blender is a fun program because you can sometimes just say "screw it i'll just randomly try to figure out what the different things in different dropdowns actually do" and come out learning a thing or two or something that will make you question how you used to live without it

finished playing through Okami

i absolutely understand why the game gets the praise it gets and i liked it for what it is but at the same time... i also understand why roughly only 1/5 people on steam finished it because for me it just felt like this.

i watched someone coincidentally play through the game for the first time yesterday and run into the crash and we were so confused until i checked steam discussions which was filled with people talking about that specific crash lmaoooo
