A WHOLE CIVILIZATION
WILL DIE TONIGHT
My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools.
Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's
"keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's
"we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight."
It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before.
"It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time.
A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead.

Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

It costs a lot less to house people.

This is an absolute stunner. Top drawer fiction. Brilliant world building, great characters, fantastic plot and story and stunning twists and turns. A must read.

I’m not anti AI and I have used it when I was struggling for inspiration but as I watched the children then struggle I felt I had bipassed the understanding of how to help them.

If we can’t be bothered to go through the creative process of creating a wagoll then why on earth should the kids?

This is a brilliant book to read aloud and share with a class.

“POP! Goes the Nursery Rhyme” by @fuse8.bsky.social and @atsurumi.bsky.social is a joyful anarchic romp through a host of nursery rhymes as the ever more disruptive interruptions cause chaos. Joyous fun with a class #PicturebookPage

Fave book I’ve read this year, funny, philosophical, beautifully plotted, redemptive and just truly lovely. It was wildly different to anything I’ve read in ages

“The Undead Fox of Deadwood Forest” by #aubreyhartman is a delight. @littlebrown.bsky.social

Happy World Glacier Day!!

As we enter into the International Year of #Glacier Preservation, we must:

- redouble efforts to scale up political ambition for widespread emissions reductions

- fight to prevent every tenth of a degree of warming

- Ensure countries submit 1.5C aligned NDCs at COP30

So sad to hear of the loss of the beautiful talent that was Roberta Flack.

“The Green Piano” by Roberta, #TonyaHolden and #HaydenGoodman is a beautiful autobiographical picturebook recounts how her father got a battered piano and this led her to chase her dreams #RIPRobertaFlack #PicturebookPage

Here’s the thing: women outperform men academically; on most desireable leadership traits women tend to outperform men; women are less likely to display problematic work traits; women score higher on measures of leadership effectiveness. 1/2

World Book Day has the most sustained impact when it's used as a springboard for developing a school culture of reading. This year, we're exploring Daniel Pennac's Rights of the Reader (beautifully illustrated by Quentin Blake). Each class will develop their own set of reading rights and share them.
