Thoughts on Apple’s 2Q25 Earnings

Apple reports earnings later today at 4:30 pm ET. I published my preview for Above Avalon members (linked below).
While there are moving pieces pertaining to tariffs, my expectation is for a decent FY2Q25, w/ FY3Q25 looking potentially even better.

Wall Street loves a good story, and there appears to be an absence of catalysts capable of supplementing AI mania as Big Tech’s growth story.

This newsletter was focused on sectoral tariffs tied to semiconductors. There was plenty to cover including differences between reciprocal and sectoral tariffs, the Trump administration’s goal(s) for semiconductors, and the various unanswered questions found with the topic.

The way these exemptions subsequently played out on social media then fueled an interesting twist involving sectorial tariffs.
It feels good to be back after some time off for spring break.
On the tariff front, the major news involving exemptions broke a few hours after the most recent daily update was published on Friday, April 11th. Accordingly, today's newsletter was dedicated to going over the tariff exemptions.

Above Avalon members were well prepared for Apple tariff exemptions being granted. Here's the *very* first thing I wrote for members after Trump won the election last November.
Today’s Above Avalon Daily newsletter concluded our multi-day discussion involving everything tariffs.
After today’s discussion, we are in good shape in terms of addressing most outstanding questions involving Apple and tariffs.
Be careful out there folks. A lot of people on this website who absolutely lost their s$*% this week spreading fear and panic are now trying to backtrack because exemptions that were *very* likely all along (I've been saying it for months...) were announced.
In terms of accuracy, we are right on track with how events on the ground have been unfolding.
One of my goals for this week’s discussion has been to not get caught up in the craziness – most of which is unnecessary and driven by social media.

Apple and Tariffs (Part 4)

Yesterday's Above Avalon Daily newsletter was Part 3 of a multi-day discussion regarding everything Apple & tariffs. The update went over my thoughts regarding reciprocal tariffs being paused (ex. China), upcoming trade deals, & why exemptions for Apple continue to look likely.

Apple and Tariffs (Part 3)

Just thinking ahead, 90 days puts us in the middle of July aka summer vacation season when half of Wall Street is away.
UPDATE: White House clarifying that every country, except for China, will be at a 10% tariff for 90 days. Basically, the reciprocal tariffs have been taken off the table for everyone but China.
China tariff rises to 125% as part of the "who blinks first" contest.
Assuming I am reading this statement the right way (it's a bit confusing):
- A 90-day pause on 10% blanket tariff
- All reciprocal tariffs, except for China, reduced to 10% for 90 days
- China tariffs raised to 125% (both sides playing "who will blink first" contest)
Significant development
