I will be wandering around #FE2026 this weekend, if anyone wants a hands on demo of a GifBadge!

Doing a bit of a survey to try and get some direction on where to go from here on GifBadge production. app.formbricks.com/s/cmka39s7n0...
If you could fill it out for me, I would very much appreciate it :)
A 2.1" round Digital badge capable of showing still images and GIFs
Figured I would get an account started over here as well, as an alternative to the other site!
I will be posting updates here on the project
Currently I am working on both a 1.28" and 2.1" round digital badge capable of showing still images and GIFs
New housings in, Only will have black for this round, but at least I don't have to paint them all by hand!
Currently got some orders in to build another small batch for before FE
Nope!
Just decided I would prefer that the software would be available in case something happened to me, so the hardware wouldn't be effectively dead.
I am also an opensource person at heart, so it just sorta feels right!

Open source software has been invaluable in many projects, and GifBadge is no different.
I need to write some guidelines, as GifBadge is an AI free project, and will remain that way.

Anyone with injection molding experience following us?
Looking into some options!
22 GifBadges(circular badge sized LCD displays) of the two sizes laid out.
I have been a bit busy
Also, the first assembled v0.6 board!
How's this looking for for a case?
Who's going to MFF?
Hoping to have a number of GifBadge units available before MFF. Anyone know a good idea on how to judge interest so I can figure out quantities?
Ya, I found that one too, once I figured out what was going on.
I should probably consider some filtering on VBUS, as the new power management IC has a switchmode supply
yup! It's enough for the power management IC to think VBUS is present, but in an undervoltage condition. Which stops it from sending an interrupt.
Temporary solution on this board: lift the leg going to VBUS on the ESD package.
Will find a new ESD protection device, I guess!
Yup!
Spent way too much time chasing it as a software bug, when it was a hardware bug the entire time!
and yes, I have figured it out!
R11 is internal to the chip handling the USB interface. I just added it for clarity :)
Today's mystery.
Why does VBUS never drop below 2.something volts?
3.3V is supplied from an alternate supply.
This is a simplified schematic.
The bigger the battery, the better, IMHO!
My main limitations are the round form factor, and not wanting it to be too thick, so smaller batteries that can be swapped worked well
It's based around an ESP32S3, as I needed the extra power for GIF decoding, and the LCD controller peripheral, as the display uses a 16bit RGB interface
It's a Nokia style "BL5C" battery. So in theory about 1000mAH, but I haven't actually tested a battery to get it's actual capacity yet.
In practice I have gotten about 3-4 hours out of it depending on the content it's playing!
It's from github.com/LeoDJ/Paw-Co...
It is a Tag-Connect footprint disguised as a paw
The pinout is just an SVG from the github, with text added
the big one is new on this revision. Realized I really need to mark out what the pinout was, as I hate when other people don't do that.
rounded PCB with a dragon icon, and paw print. Text says GifBadge Created by sl1 V0.5 2024-08-19 www.gifbadge.ca
New board revision!
