rose petal bead update: after a couple days after sanding the bead oxidizes and blackens. next step is sanding again and coating in paraffin wax in the hopes it will protect the color. if this doesn’t work (bc of the heat), gonna try natural tung oil

one of my favorite things about dandelions is they are one of the few flowers you can walk on and no one will yell at you

i’m also making beads out of violet petals bc violets are my favorite flower. stay tuned to see how those turn out. gonna try an herb after that - rosemary and/or sage seems logical
this is the painting - it will look like this, more or less
i’m making them much bigger than usual bc i am recreating a ritual set of beads from one of my paintings. i’m making almost everything from scratch (all except the leather cord) including the ornate brass finding that will connect them to a piece of red smelting quartz
i’m making traditional rose petal beads. the process is tedious but worth it. the catholic carmelite order is historically linked w these as this is what they used to make their rosaries. when they dry they are almost black. a little sanding reveals the color.
i smiled and the only thing i could think to say was: i fuckin love lilacs
this woman came up to me in my neighborhood bar and said: i see you around a lot but i was always afraid to talk to you bc you look scary but i saw you stop and smell some lilacs and you looked so happy that i decided to talk to you next time i saw you
last night was fun

been reading early horror fantasy from the late 1700s & every now & then i find myself staring up at the ceiling & not reading. this stuff is not exactly easy to read but it makes me think down along the paths of later writers like lovecraft & howard & see the little trails that led to them
Hypnos, sculpture
Hypnos, god of Sleep, son of Nyx and Erebus, The Night and The Dark. It is believed Hypnos lived in a cave of poppies, in dark and in quiet, a lush platform for the dream state.
lol i came back here to say “gotta banish ‘em all”
in mesopotamian demonology demons were often used to ward off demons bc any two demons might hate each other more than they hate you. pazuzu, king of the wind demons, was often shown with ugallu to keep him in check
