A new film has been released, & we are proud to be hosting a screening on 22 April here at @newcastleuni.bsky.social
The screening is free to attend and open to all.
UK map with location markers for all public and private screenings planned so far
Screenings of The People’s Emergency Briefing began today and are already planned in all 650 constituencies of the UK and @sioldridge.bsky.social and @nickoldridge.bsky.social have requests to show or make equivalent films overseas! We are going to need a bigger map! www.nebriefing.org/screening-map

Great visualization about how warming in the Arctic (like we're having right now) is leading to colder winters with more snowfall 👇
It's awfully ironic that this was Lord Whitehead's answer, as at the @nebriefing.bsky.social Prof. @kevinclimate.bsky.social told the attendees in no uncertain terms that the 1.5C goal was now out of reach and 2C will soon be too!
That many dont know this yet shows the need of a government briefing
Why would the Government 𝗻𝗼𝘁 brief the public on the biggest threat to face our nation?
Thank you to Baroness Natalie Bennett for asking this important question in the House of Lords, echoing the call from experts and over 37,000 signatories

"I was talking about extreme weather events. How they're rapidly increasing all over the world. How they're increasing much faster than #climate models predict. So faster than we expected, & they're causing severe impacts"
- Prof. @hayleyjfowler.bsky.social speaking at the @nebriefing.bsky.social
Watching this and hearing @hayleyjfowler.bsky.social say "This is the least extreme climate that you will experience in your lifetime" should have everyone rushing to sign this open letter to the PM www.nebriefing.org/open-letter-... Kill the disinfo - the UK needs to be properly prepared!
. @hayleyjfowler.bsky.social from our School of Engineering @nclengineering.bsky.social recently appeared on BBC's A Question of Science to answer audience questions about the climate emergency.

I’ve just announced I’ll be leading a National Emergency Briefing on 27 November . At a time when climate is in free fall on the political agenda , it’s vital our leaders realise what is at stake if we do not accelerate a just , green transition for all .

I was delighted to be part of this programme just released today on the #ClimateCrisis hosted by @briancoxtalks.bsky.social with @georgemonbiot.bsky.social, @kathrynbrown.bsky.social and Myles Allen

📢 Britain faces a climate & nature emergency.
On 27 Nov, eight leading experts will brief 800+ leaders from politics, business, culture, faith & media.
An unfiltered overview of the latest threats & solutions.
Only by facing it can we rise to the challenge.

Lol. Well I think I missed this in my (less than thorough) editing. Very amusing.

yes - 40degC in June would truly be something in the UK!
We are looking for new members of the Met Office Hadley Centre Climate Programme: Science Review and Advisory Group, which I chair - deadline 13th August.

This is a very nice new paper I was involved in. It is a very powerful new method for investigating the thermodynamic effects of climate change on rainfall extremes, with some quite sobering results showing very large increases in intensity.
I'll be on the panel for this podcast with @briancoxtalks.bsky.social next week. We are talking about climate adaptation. You can be part of the audience (sign up in the link below) #ClimateCrisis

Shame I didn't see this until now. I'd have come to see it. She looks delighted!
