Back in 2021 I spent a few months of a predoc RAship refactoring stata code into R code. It would be trivial to do this now with current ai tools but doing it with stackoverflow was a formative learning experience.

Really interesting distinction. Authors use gold standard in-patient records to train a classification model, predict on out-patient data, and find more COVID deaths than officially reported. I think "predict" correctly describes their mechanism, while "estimate" correctly describes their conclusion
Yea their methods definitely prioritize avoiding false positives. this was a pretty high bar for flagging dishonesty and there were still so many
