Had a great time in SF recently speaking @archive.org, meeting many folks that @datarescueproject.org has been working with. One outcome is this pledge committing to preserve and expand access to US government data and research. Please read, sign, share, and take action! publicinformationtrust.org

ICYMI: The @nsarchive.bsky.social published the new Disappearing Data Chronology to track major data losses (and wins!) of the last year.
As @lyndamk.bsky.social put it in an email, we’re going to need resources like these “in putting the pieces back together.”

Love the concept of "Stewardship as civic commitment" that @lyndamk.bsky.social discussed in her RLUK26 keynote about the @datarescueproject.org. Definitely something to extend everywhere we have skills, interests, and concerns! youtu.be/nlyIDEaOOlU?...
For absolutely no reason at all, we've decided our only #MemeMonday this month will be #BobsBurgers themed. So GET EXCITED. Up first: our love for public datasets rivals that of Zeke's for Jimmy Junior. When we rescue datasets, we often say "We're gonna getchu!"

As gov info geeks, we love CRS Reports anyway, but we especially love this one focused on the federal data.
Thanks so much for mentioning our work. And the work continues!

DRP satirical statement on the kitkat theft
For those who have not heard, 12 tons of #KitKats were stolen in Europe. We don't REALLY have enough KitKats to send to every DRP rescuer for every rescued dataset...but maybe we do, who knows.

Feb 3, 2025 - We started fighting to save our data.
July 3, 2025 - We launched #SaveOurSigns with Minn librarians.
April 2026 - We are still talking about the importance of public data as a public good.

Today, the Archive published a Disappearing Data Chronology--a timeline tracking changes in access to federal information under Trump, including major data losses and restorations, legal challenges to information takedowns, and threats to archival collections. nsarchive.gwu.edu/special-exhi...
Just possessing a dataset isn't true preservation of your files. For this #MemeMonday, protect yourself against possible mishaps, and consider the 3-2-1 backup rule, add relevant documentation and metadata, and deposit your data in a reputable repository for reference and reuse.
There’s plenty you can do with #SaveOurSigns
I’m excited to join @uksg.bsky.social for #UKSG2026 & talk about @datarescueproject.org But also keen to learn more about OA publishing & more. I spend so much time in open data that I have to work against professional myopia.
Data rescue highlight! ⚡
We recently helped facilitate the backing up of some of the Fedscope datasets that include race and ethnicity. This data accompanies this report from National Women's Law Center
